Goldwater Scholarship Program

The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship Program was created to encourage outstanding students to pursue careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering and to foster excellence in those fields. Each scholarship covers eligible expenses for tuition, fees, books, and room and board, up to a maximum of $7,500 annually.

To be eligible, a student must 1) be a full-time sophomore or junior during the 2018-2019 academic year, 2) have a college grade-point average of at least "B" (3.0) and be in the upper fourth of their class, and 3) be a United States citizen or a permanent resident. Sophomores will be supported for their junior and senior years, while juniors will be supported for the senior year. OU is allowed to nominate up to four students. If more than four OU students apply, then a committee of OU faculty will select the four nominees.

If you want to be considered for nomination by OU, complete the Goldwater application at https://goldwater.scholarsapply.org/ by January 6, 2020. Several parts of the application (e.g., writing the essay, obtaining official transcripts, arranging for letters of recommendation, etc.) require time, so get an early start.

Additional information can be found at the Goldwater website: https://goldwater.scholarsapply.org/ or contact the faculty representative Brad Roth (Dept. Physics, roth@oakland.edu, 166 HH, x4871).
