Hi, I’m Margaret Thompson!

I’m so excited to be this year’s St. Jude Chair for ESA at Bradley! St. Jude is an organization that means a lot to me because of the incredible work they do treating kids with cancer and other serious illnesses at no cost so the families never have to worry about medical bills, travel, housing, or food. They can just focus on helping their child get better.

My job as chair is to keep our chapter involved in fundraising and events for St. Jude, and to make sure everyone knows how big of an impact even a small donation can make.

What is St. Jude?

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is a world-renowned facility focused on treating and curing childhood cancer and other life- threatening diseases. Founded by Danny Thomas in 1962, its mission has always been simple but powerful: no child should die in the dawn of life. What makes St. Jude truly unique is that families never receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing, or food ever. Everything is completely covered so parents can focus on helping their child heal, not worrying about finances Beyond providing care, St. Jude is a research hospital that leads the way in medical breakthroughs. When St. Jude first opened, the overall childhood cancer survival rate was less than 20%. Today, it’s over 80%, thanks to treatments developed at St. Jude and shared freely with hospitals around the world.

How does St. Jude contribute in Peoria?

St. Jude in Peoria is part of the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Affiliate Program, which means it works directly with the main hospital in Memphis to provide world-class care to kids here in our community. The affiliate clinic in Peoria gives families access to the same leading edge treatments and clinical trials that St. Jude is known for, but closer to home. One of the biggest things that makes St. Jude different is that families never receive a bill for care, travel, housing, or food. That’s true here in Peoria, too. Everything is completely covered, so parents can focus entirely on helping their child heal without the stress of medical costs. The Peoria affiliate treats children with cancer and blood disorders while staying connected to the groundbreaking research happening at St. Jude in Memphis. This means kids in Central Illinois can receive top-level treatment without leaving their support system. Beyond medical care, St. Jude in Peoria plays a huge role in fundraising and community support. The local St. Jude runs and events are a big part of making sure treatment stays free for every family. At the end of the day, St. Jude isn’t just a hospital, it’s a mission to give every child a chance at life, and the Peoria clinic brings that mission to our community.
