Tuesday, June 18, Regular Monthly Club Meeting, 7:30pm (Club Event)

Our monthly meeting will be held at the Timbrook Library, 18891 Leesville Rd, Lynchburg, VA. Guests are welcome. Our topic will be ‘Telescopes 101’, and will discuss telescope basics and compare different telescope and mount designs.

Saturday, June 22, James River State Park with the Richmond Astronomical Society, 8-10pm

The park is celebrating their 25th anniversary with a Dark Sky event hosted by the Richmond club. The event will be held at Shelter 4 in the park. Normal entry/parking fees apply, but are waived for astronomer volunteers.

Saturday, June 22, Astronomy Festival on the National Mall, 6-11pm

In association with the Smithsonian institution, Hofstra University is hosting the Astronomy Festival on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The event is free to the public. Full information on the event can be found here: https://www.hofstra.edu/physics-astronomy/astronomy-festival.html

July 3-6, Green Bank Star Quest

Held at the Green Bank Observatory, this 4-day event is the largest in the country that combines both optical and radio astronomy.  Full event information, including fees and a list of presentations and speakers, can be found at https://greenbankstarquest.org.

July 5, Natural Bridge State Park Dark Sky Night, 9-11pm

Saturday, July 6, James River State Park with the Rappahannock Astronomy Club, 9pm

The Rappahannock Club is hosting a Dark Sky event at the park. The event will be held at Shelter 4. Normal entry/parking fees apply, but are waived for astronomer volunteers. Come see the amazing views through Corey’s 16-inch Dobsonian telescope with night vision filter.

Wednesday, July 10, “The Sky is Falling – Space Rocks and You”, Peaks of Otter Lodge, 9pm

Saturday, July 20, James River State Park with the Blue Ridge Astronomy Club, 9pm

Out club is hosting a Dark Sky event at the park. Our program will focus on lunar observing, as the moon is full. The event will be held at Shelter 4. Normal entry/parking fees apply, but are waived for astronomer volunteers.

Saturday, July 27, James River State Park Dark Sky Program, 9pm

The park is hosting  club is hosting a Dark Sky viewing event at Shelter 4 in the park. Normal entry/parking fees apply, but are waived for astronomer volunteers.

July 28-29, Delta Aquarids Meteor Shower Peaks

Shower activity runs from July 12-August 23, peaking in the early morning of July 29. The third quarter moon, rising around 12:45am, will block the fainter meteors from view, so the best time to view is shortly before moonrise. This shower doesn’t have a clearly defined peak, so you can also try a few days before and after.
