As part of our restructuring process, the BPM-L Board is taking the opportunity to clean up membership records and ensure accuracy moving forward. Some inconsistencies have been discovered in chapter records regarding membership status and dues payments, and we want to address this transparently.
All current members will be considered in good standing for the 2025-2026 year. This means if you are currently listed as a member, your membership is active through our next annual meeting in 2027.
This year we will be implementing a more streamlined process to keep our records accurate. Members who have not renewed by next year's annual meeting will be moved to inactive status at that time.
We appreciate your patience as we work to strengthen our organizational system. If you would like to be removed from the membership list or have questions about your membership status, please do not hesitate to reach out to the BPM-L Board at bpmlambda@gmail.com
Regular annual dues will remain at $25 per year. As we enter an exciting period of growth and restructuring, your continued support helps us expand membership opportunities, fund scholarships for aspiring library and information professionals, and sustain the programs that strengthen our community. Your dues make our annual meeting and year-round professional development opportunities possible. We encourage all members to submit their dues for this year via PayPal:

The Beta Phi Mu Lambda Chapter Barriers and Support scholarship will provide two $1,000.00 scholarships in 2025 to University of Oklahoma Master of Library & Information Studies (MLIS) students whose success in a graduate program may be impacted by a number of barriers or factors, such as being a first generation college student, being a single parent, chronic illness, unaffordability, changing careers, or technology barriers, to name a few examples. This scholarship aims to alleviate a small portion of the financial stress for currently-enrolled students by providing a check to put towards graduate school expenses in any way that they choose.
Any University of Oklahoma School of Library & Information Studies master's student may apply for this scholarship; there is no minimum GPA to be eligible, and students may apply regardless of how long they have been an OU MLIS student (early-program and late-program students may both apply). Part and full-time students are both eligible to apply.
The 2025 application period closed on February 15 at 11:59pm. Congratulations to our 2025 recipients—Tessa and Marissa!
If you have any questions or need technological help, please contact the Beta Phi Mu Lambda Officers at bpmlambda@gmail.com.

The Beta Phi Mu International Library and Information Studies Honor Society (Beta Phi Mu) would like to remind everyone of their Professional Membership category.
This membership category is intended for those who meet all requirements for Regular Membership (GPA of at least 3.75 upon graduation from an ALA-accredited or approved LIS program, and professional recommendations), but for whatever reason did not join at the point of graduation.
Applicants for Professional Membership are also asked to provide evidence of their contributions to the field of library and information science. There is a one-time, lifetime membership fee of US$150. More information about this new category of membership, and a link to the application form, can be found at: https://www.betaphimu.org/membership.html
Beta Phi Mu, established in 1948, is a formal Affiliate of the American Library Association and has been a certified member of the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS) since 1969. The ACHS provides recognition for legitimate college and university honor societies, setting standards for organizational excellence and for scholastic eligibility. Many ACHS-certified honor societies offer professional memberships or similar membership categories. The Beta Phi Mu Executive Board approved adding this membership category at their April, 2018 board meeting and the by-laws changes necessary for formalizing this change were ratified by the Beta Phi Mu membership on the May, 2018 ballot.
Interested LIS professionals and LIS faculty members are encouraged to visit the Beta Phi Mu website for more information, or to contact Beta Phi Mu Headquarters with any questions they may have.
