Have you seen our awesome Blue Planet videos yet? For the first challenge, watch at least one of the four videos listed and learn about 100% clean energy!

Even though it may not feel like much, one small change in your lifestyle can have a major positive impact. For our 2nd challenge, make at least one pledge to reduce the amount of energy you use. Get creative with it!

Remember to hashtag #bpfchangemakers2020 and tag @bpf_changemakers. By completing this challenge you will win a ‘Be the Change’ fan!

Spreading awareness is one of the best ways to create change in your community, which is what week 2 is all about! Help create change with Challenge #3 by creating a clean transportation infographic (it can be a drawing, google slides, word document, or on a site like canva.com!). Include at least 3 facts with a short caption about why you feel that clean transportation is important.

Week 2 also has a bonus for your challenge submissions! Post your challenge submissions on your Instagram story, tag 5 of your friends (and us), and encourage them to complete the challenge as well. You will win an extra entry into our grand prize raffle!

We want you to share your story about what keeps you inspired! What kind of future are you fighting for? Show us what you envision your clean energy future looks like in any creative format—it can be a drawing, poem, photo, etc. Let us know in the caption how it inspires you to keep fighting for a more sustainable future! You will win a reusable boba straw and cleaner by completing this challenge

With this challenge, we want you to let your representatives know how much you want clean energy!

• Find your representative's contact information. It can be your city council member or your state legislature senator or representative.
  • For your Honolulu city council representative: https://www.honolulu.gov/council. Scroll down to the map of Oahu, hover over the area where you live, and find your represenative's email address!
  • For your state legislature senator or representative:https://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/members/legislators.aspx?chamber=all. Scroll through the page until you find the senator or representative that represents where you live!
• In the first paragraph, tell your representative a little about yourself! What grade are you in? Where do you go to school? Why do you care about clean energy?
• In the second paragraph, explain why you feel that your representative should also care about clean energy. Encourage them to pass bills that promote clean energy, energy efficiency, and clean transportation! You can be as specific or as broad as you like.
  • Even though the Hawaii state legislature session is currently on hold due to COVID-19, here is a list of some of the bills that Blue Planet is supporting this year. (Note: These bills only apply to your state legislature senator and representative)
• Send your letter to your representative over email! Then, post your message to your representative on Instagram about how you felt about this challenge.

Islandpulse.org is a free resource that provides live updates on energy usage in Oahu, including a breakdown of how much of that energy is renewable and nonrenewable.

By completing this challenge, you will win a Blue Planet Rice Paddle!

For this challenge, we want you to count how many incandescent light bulbs you have in your home, and calculate how much money you would save per year with LED bulbs!

• First, count how many total light bulbs are in your home. How many of those are incandescent? How many of those are LED?
  • If you have no incandescent light bulbs, just count the total number of light bulbs in your home!
• Second, calculate how much money you would save each year if you replaced all your incandescent bulbs with LED bulbs. Each incandescent bulb costs about $11 per year, while each LED light bulb costs about $1 per year. This means you save $10/year per bulb!
  • If you have no incandescent light bulbs, how much are you saving by having all LED light bulbs?
• Post a picture of something related to this challenge — it can be a picture of a light bulb, your calculations, an infographic, or something else! In your caption, let us know:
  • The total number of incandescent light bulbs in your home.
  • The total number of LED light bulbs in your home.
  • How much money you save per year!

*Note: CFL light bulbs are another alternative to incandescent light bulbs that are more energy efficient! For this challenge, just count CFL light bulbs and LED light bulbs together!
