Nestled in the rolling countryside near Sicklinghall, Wetherby, Bowland Farm is a family-run farm dedicated to thoughtful, sustainable agriculture. The farm spans just over 18 acres of rich grazing land, home to a happy mix of sheep, pigs, chickens, and ducks.
At Bowland Farm, we believe in working with nature, not against it. Our farming practices are rooted in respect for the land, the animals, and the environment. We minimise the use of chemicals and pesticides, choosing instead to promote biodiversity, soil health, and animal welfare through sustainable methods.
Each animal on the farm is raised with care, and each acre is tended with purpose—whether it’s rotating pasture to preserve grass quality or planting with future seasons in mind. For us, sustainability isn’t a buzzword—it’s a way of life.
We’re proud to supply our local community with high-quality, responsibly raised produce while preserving the traditions that make British farming so special.
Come and see what makes Bowland Farm a little different. The ducks might quack a warm welcome.
At Bowland Farm, our flock of Lleyn sheep is at the heart of what we do. Known for their gentle temperament, strong mothering instincts, and excellent lambing rates, Lleyns are a cornerstone of our farm.
Our herd thrives on the lush, chemical-free pastures, where they graze naturally and contribute to a balanced, sustainable ecosystem. These hardy, versatile sheep are perfectly suited to our low-input approach—requiring fewer interventions whilst producing high-quality lamb and wool.
We carefully select our breeding stock to ensure healthy genetics, strong structure, and a continued emphasis on welfare. It’s all part of our commitment to farming that respects both animals and the environment.
We believe good lamb starts in the field—with healthy animals raised respectfully and in harmony with the land. That’s why we avoid artificial growth promoters and unnecessary chemical treatments, focusing instead on welfare, biodiversity, and soil health.
At Bowland Farm, we have a breeding pair of Large Blacks and a breeding Saddleback sow. Both these are rare breeds and we hope to play a part in ensuring these breeds survive in the UK.
The Large Blacks are listed as endangered by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust and the Saddlebacks are listed as "at risk" by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust, meaning their numbers are low and preservation is important. (Reference: https://www.rbst.org.uk/Pages/Category/pigs-watchlist?Take=11)
