Where does the team practice?
Our main practice facility is at the AISD Natatorium at the AISD Athletics Complex near Cowboys Stadium.
How does the team get to and from practice?
Morning group swimmers must get themselves to practice and a bus will be available to pick them up at 8:30 AM each morning and return them to Bowie campus. Afternoon group swimmers will have a bus to take them from Bowie to AISD Natatorium at 1:20 PM each day and a return bus from AISD Natatorium to Bowie at 3:55 PM.
How do I earn a letter jacket?
There are two ways to earn a letter jacket. You can either
1. Swim TWO or more races with times faster than the listed time.
2. Compete in Varsity level competition for 3 full seasons.
How do I qualify for District Championships?
Each high school team may submit one entry per relay event (3 total) and four entries per individual event (7 total). This limits the district meet to 31 total entries for girls and 31 total entries for boys. We want to be as competitive as possible at this level, therefore, not all athletes on the team will have a spot for this meet.
How do I qualify for Region Championships
In order to qualify for Region Championships, you have to finish in the Top 6 of any individual event at the District Championship Meet. Relay lineups are determined by the coaches between districts and regions.
How do I qualify for the UIL State Meet?
There are two ways: 1.Finish 1st or 2nd in any individual race at the Region Championship Meet OR 2. Swim a time at the Regional finals that ranks you among the Top 8 fastest times in the state among all concurrent region meets. (Call Up times). The state meet consists of 24 swimmers in each event, 16 of the spots come from the top 2 finishers in each of the 8 regions in the state and the other 8 spots are given to those that get the "Call Up" times.
When is the swimming season? What happens after?
TRYOUTS - first two weeks of school
MEET COMPETITION SEASON - early October through middle of February, including training during the holiday break that is required
BREAK - after final championship meet for the team, usually lasts 1-3 weeks.
OFF-SEASON - middle of March and through end of school year, dryland and strength/conditioning sporadically over the summer
