Bowie's Bandstands
Charity Auction

Three items have been donated by local Ryde-based costume designer, Diana Moseley, are going on auction at Bonham's in March and May 2022!

Diana has kindly donated the pyjamas to raise money to make new Bandstands along Ryde esplanade on the Isle of Wight, designed by local artist, Karl Stedman, and produced by composite engineer, Chris Horne.

The Bandstands have been based on the themes of:
'Victorian seaside town', 'IOW music Festival' and 'Carnival'
(Ryde is home to the longest running British Carnival)

The Isle of Wight has a strong Bowie Legacy

Bowie's first ever public performance was on the IOW at Corf Scout Camp in 1958. He loved the Island so much that he returned in 1965 to play on a bandstand in Ventnor and again at a gig in Ventnor Winter Gardens when he was in 'The Lower Third'. Notably, the IoW Festival was also his last UK public performance in 2004.

The Costume designer Diana Moseley worked with David Bowie on many different projects and now lives in Ryde. She has become a personal friend and supporter of Monkton Arts community projects and has kindly donated the items after seeing the bandstand designs and wanting to raise money to make them a reality.

"David loved the seaside and would have absolutely fallen in love with these beautiful bandstand designs, as I have. They will bring music to the community where it all began for him" - Diana Moseley
