Bowen Homes was a part of the Low Rent Housing Program, located at Yates Drive, NW and Wilkes Circle. It was completed on March 10, 1964, and situated on 53.9 acres of land bounded by Bankhead Highway on the north and Field Road on the east. This residential community, located in District 9, comprised 650 units.
This 12-page booklet, along with a fact sheet, was prepared for the dedication services of Bowen Homes. As a valuable historical resource, the booklet contains the dedication program, photographs of the first family to occupy Bowen Homes, as well as typical scenes from the community. It also features pictures of the Bowen Homes staff, community groups, and senior citizens.

This artifact is an Engineer Norman brick, also known as a "Jumbo brick," along with a 1/2 inch mortar joint. The color of the mortar closely matches the color of the brick, creating a cohesive appearance rather than a contrasting color scheme, such as white/off-white or black/gray. This choice in design was intentional, giving the buildings in Bowen Homes a monolithic and unified appearance.
The streets within the Bowen Homes area were intentionally named after prominent religious and business leaders, with notable examples including Wilkes Circle, Yates Drive, Chivers Street, and Walden Street.
