When your gripping force is limited, you are desparated to look for any holds that allows you to share your weight. Believe this, your smearing feet is doing it's job, regardless of the rubber you have on you climbing shoes. Try any positive hold on the wall. You will be suprised that foot chip is the key to your send.
Eg. (a) is a bad hold to dead hang on with single hand. In this case, push (c) with your left foot so the required gripping force on (a) is lessen.
