Michael Bothel has served as an Executive Leader, Advanced Interpreter, College Instructor, Mentor and Workshop Presenter.

Michael's journey in the field of deafness began as a certified interpreter in the state of Texas. With a rich and diverse career, He has served as an educational interpreter, community interpreter, and VRS interpreter, each role deepening his understanding and expertise in American Sign Language (ASL).

His dedication to education is evident from his tenure as an ASL teacher at Tarrant County College's interpreting training program, where he also contributed as a board advisor. Beyond academia, Michael extended his teaching to the US Post Office and the Goodrich Center for the Deaf, where he provided contract ASL instruction.

Michael's leadership skills have been honed through his work with a large VRS provider, where he led training sessions focused on leadership, teaming, and skill development. His commitment to professional growth extends to his provision of interpreter workshops at both state and national levels, reaching audiences across Canada, Puerto Rico, and the United States.

Michael also worked as a Director, District Manager and Sr. Regional Director for VRS.

With a career marked by significant contributions and a wealth of experience, Michael Bothel is now focused on giving back to the community that has been instrumental in his personal and professional development. His goal is to continue supporting and empowering the deaf community, ensuring that others benefit from the same opportunities that shaped his journey.

Michael currently interprets at with several Chicagoland Interpreting Agencies as well as private contracts. Michael is certified and licensed in the state of Illinois. 

Michael has also had the privilege to provide trainings and workshops at regional and national interpreting conferences in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.

Topics including ASL Grammar, ASL Idioms, Sign to Voice Interpreting, ASL Conceptions, Interpreter Ethics, Conflict Resolutions and Professional Interpreter Customer Service.
