Meet Our Team
The Bose-AI Lab is a collaborative and interdisciplinary research group dedicated to developing artificial intelligence, computational genomics, and network biology approaches to understand complex diseases and advance precision medicine. We bring together expertise from biology, computer science, mathematics, physics, statistics, and data science to solve clinically relevant problems.
Principal Investigator & Lab Director
Dr. Banabithi Bose is an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Sciences at Roosevelt University and the founder and director of the BOSE-AI Lab. Her research integrates artificial intelligence, computational biology, and human genetics to understand complex diseases and advance precision medicine. Her laboratory develops computational and AI-driven approaches for integrating large-scale genomic, multi-omic, and clinical data, with current research spanning cancer genomics, pharmacogenomics, and sex differences in disease biology.
GRADUATE STUDENTS
Daniela Nunez is currently an MS student in Integrated Biomedical Sciences at Roosevelt University. Her research interests include cancer biology, immunology, biotechnology, and genomics. In the BOSE-AI Lab, under the mentorship of Dr. Bose, she uses computational approaches to study molecular and genomic patterns in cancer. She aspires to pursue a DO-PhD to integrate medicine and research, with the goal of contributing to both patient care and biomedical discovery. Outside of academics, Daniela enjoys knitting, DIY projects, spending time with her family and faith community, and, of course, coffee.
Sofiya Azhar is currently an MS student in Biological Sciences at Roosevelt University, with a background in microbiology and teaching laboratory experience. Her research interests include cancer biology, oncology research, and the molecular mechanisms of cancer. She has hands-on experience with mammalian cancer cell culture, MTT-based cytotoxicity and IC50 determination, flow cytometry for cell-cycle analysis, apoptosis assays, and γH2AX-based DNA damage assessment. In the BOSE-AI Lab, she is expanding her skills in bioinformatics, multi-omics, and AI approaches to study cancer-related biological data. She hopes to bridge experimental cancer biology with computational approaches to better understand cancer mechanisms and therapeutic responses. Outside of academics, she enjoys nature photography, walking in nature, and spending time with family and friends.
Gary Nunez’s research focuses on targeting pyrroline-5-carboxylate reductase (PYCR) isozymes as potential therapeutic strategies in cancer. He is particularly interested in the role of cancer metabolism, redox balance, and cellular processes in tumor development and progression. His passion for cancer research is closely connected to his goal of becoming a surgeon, where he hopes to integrate an understanding of cancer biology with clinical decision-making and patient care. Outside of academics and research, Gary enjoys bodybuilding, playing basketball, traveling outside of Chicago, and gardening—a recently discovered hobby that he finds especially rewarding.
Isha Mehta is currently an MS student in Integrated Biomedical Sciences at Roosevelt University. Her research interests center on the human microbiome and its interactions with host biology in health and complex disease, integrating computational and wet-lab approaches. In the BOSE-AI Lab, she is exploring microbiome data to better understand its role in disease susceptibility and progression. She aspires to pursue an MD-PhD and a career as a physician-scientist, integrating biomedical research with patient care. Outside of academics, Isha enjoys meeting new people, discovering new food spots, traveling, and spending quality time with friends and family.
UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS
Daria Volnaya is currently an undergraduate student at Roosevelt University. Her research interests include neuroscience, neuroimmunology, and the role of inflammation in neurological diseases. In the BOSE-AI Lab, she is analyzing Alzheimer’s disease datasets to explore changes in inflammation-related genes and immune signaling pathways. Before moving to the United States, she studied medicine at Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University and gained clinical experience in pediatric hospitals. She has also worked as a clinical research assistant with the University of Chicago Hospitalist Project. She aspires to become a physician-scientist, combining biomedical research with patient care. Outside of academics, Daria enjoys going to the theater, taking walks outdoors, and playing tennis.
