This Code of Ethics defines the conduct and integrity expected of all certified Community Perinatal Doulas. It protects client trust, supports client-centered care, and prevents agenda-pushing and scope drift.
1) Client autonomy and informed choice
We honor each client’s right to make decisions about their body, birth, baby, and family. We support informed choice by offering balanced education, decision-support questions, and respectful communication coaching. We do not pressure, shame, or use fear to influence choices.
2) Scope and safety humility
We practice within the Community Perinatal Doula scope. We do not diagnose, treat, or provide medical advice. When concerns exceed scope or appear urgent, we encourage timely evaluation by a licensed provider and support the client in accessing appropriate care.
3) Respect and non-discrimination
We treat every client with dignity, respect, and compassion regardless of background, beliefs, family structure, or choices.
4) Confidentiality and privacy
We protect client information and share only what is necessary for the purpose, using written permission before sharing with others when applicable. We communicate with professionalism and protect privacy in all settings.
5) Integrity and professionalism
We are honest about our role, training, and limitations. We avoid conflicts of interest, misleading claims, and agenda-driven support. We maintain appropriate boundaries and represent our services accurately.
6) Fidelity and accountability
We keep commitments, communicate clearly, and follow through on agreed plans. We support client-led goals through encouragement, problem-solving, and practical next steps, without control or coercion.
This policy applies to all certified Community Perinatal Doulas and is a condition of certification and recertification.
