This procedure explains how clients, students/trainees, collaborating professionals, or community members can raise concerns related to program conduct, curriculum standards, discrimination, or certification administration.
Any client, student/trainee, birth partner, collaborating provider/organization, or other affected party may file a grievance. Anonymous reports may be reviewed, but anonymity may limit follow-up.
Submit a grievance by email or mail:
Email: support@perinatal.academy
Mail: Inga Goodwin, Director BAA, PO Box 381, Powhatan, VA 23139
Please include:
Your name and contact information (unless submitting anonymously)
Date(s) and a description of what occurred
Name(s) of any person(s) involved
Any documents, screenshots, or other supporting information you want considered
We will acknowledge receipt within 7 business days and describe next steps.
We will determine whether the grievance falls within academy scope and gather information as needed. The individual named in the grievance may be informed and given an opportunity to respond unless doing so would create a safety risk. We handle information as confidentially as possible and share it only with those who need to know in order to review and resolve the concern.
When feasible, we will provide a written outcome within 30 business days after acknowledgment. If more time is needed, we will provide an updated timeline.
Outcomes may include:
No action (not substantiated)
Clarification of expectations or policy education
Corrective action plan with deadlines
Limiting participation in academy programs
Denial of certification application (when relevant)
Suspension or revocation of a credential (when relevant, using the credential’s published standards)
A written appeal may be submitted within 14 calendar days of the outcome notice. Appeals should state what you believe was incorrect or incomplete and include any new information. A reviewer not directly involved in the initial decision (when feasible) will review the appeal and issue a final decision.
Retaliation for filing a grievance in good faith is prohibited.
If there is immediate danger, contact emergency services. If you suspect abuse or neglect, contact the appropriate authorities.
This policy applies to all academy programs and interactions.
