Subject: Annual Happenings and A Report
Respected Patrons
I am privileged to have this opportunity to share Annual Report of Borderless World Foundation.
Working in the State of Jammu & Kashmir since 1997, which is certainly one of the world’s worst affected conflict areas, our emphasis is to empower the girl children in the area, who are the most vulnerable part of the society.
In 2002, we registered ourselves with the Registrar of Societies and began the second phase of our work on in the worst affected area of northern Kashmir, the frontier district of Kupwara.
What started then as a home for 4 children in a small room, has now grown to becoming a network of five homes across the state – housing 200+ girl children as on date. We have tried to reach out to the children of the state by starting one home each in Northern (Kupwara), Central (Budgam), Chanpora (Srinagar City) and Southern Kashmir (Anantnag) as well as one in Jammu which specifically focuses on the affected girl children of displaced families living in camps on the outskirts of the city.
Our primary focus is to educate the children in a way that helps them become contributive citizens of local communities and the world by making informed and free choices. In this direction we are constantly striving to improve the environment at home, health, nutrition and infrastructure. For this, we are always on a look-out for new meaningful partnerships.
After having won the trust of the local communities, we are allowed to take the girls out of the state as well. Right since 2008, we have been organizing “Winter Education and Culture Exchange Tours”. Schools in Kashmir remained closed for over two months during winters. We utilize this time for taking them out to other cities where they join the children of other institutions, learn vocational skills, art forms, participate in workshops, excursion, learn about renewable energy, meet people from other nations and cultures, and many more things with every girl child having the freedom to choose from a large plethora of activities.
BWF is also helping girls in their Higher Education as well as vocational training. Many of our girls who are passing middle school education and aspiring for career based higher education or vocational courses are receiving career guidance and support in higher studies. More than 34 girls are studying in various cities in India for various vocational courses as well as in graduate, post graduate career courses in medicines, engineering, computer science, nursing, etc.
We also bring people from outside Kashmir to our homes in Kashmir to come and teach our children on different subjects, ranging from art, theater, linguistics, literature, sports, magic – nearly anything that could constructively contribute to their growth. Our scanning of the volunteers is very careful though.
Also, since last 2 years we tried to develop our expertise on other areas like Health and Women Empowerment.
We have also launched a Project “Kashmir Life Line” and “Jammu Life Line” which is mainly an Emergency Medical Service and Rah E Niswan is a Business centre run by females under Women Empowerment. We are always in the process of expanding our reach to serve the needy sections of the society through our various projects.
All our homes are in rental facilities, we are planning to build homes in Kashmir and in Jammu so that we can provide better living for our girls. We have been able to purchase land at Jammu, Kupwara, Budgam and eagerly look for the opportunity to have the same in Srinagar and Anantnag as well to help us construct our own homes/hostels at all these centers.
For this, We are looking for a long term supporters to help us achieve our aims & objectives of our mission.
We request for your benevolent help in fulfilling our mission.
With Prayers
Adhik Kadam
