Do students need prior coding experience?
No prior experience is required for most programs. Many of our offerings are designed specifically for beginners, and students are guided step-by-step as they learn new skills. Returning students can build on their experience through more advanced programs and challenges.
What ages or grade levels are your programs for?
Most Border City Coding Club programs are designed for students in Grades 4–8. Program descriptions will clearly indicate the recommended age or grade range.
What tools and technology do students use?
Students primarily use Scratch and Minecraft Education, along with other age-appropriate tools depending on the program. Some camps may also include hands-on technologies such as 3D printing.
How long are sessions and camps?
Evening programs typically run twice per week over several weeks, with sessions lasting 60 minutes. School break camps runs for two full days during school breaks or as weeklong programs in the summer.
Where do programs take place?
All sessions are supervised and take place in safe, appropriate learning environments. We have programs that take place at College Park School and at Winston Churchill School.
What is the group size?
Programs are intentionally kept small to allow for individualized support and meaningful interaction. This helps ensure students feel supported while still being challenged.
What if my child has to miss a session?
If a student misses a session due to illness or scheduling conflicts, we are unable to offer refunds or make-up sessions. However, students are supported in rejoining the program and continuing their learning.
Do you offer refunds?
Refunds and cancellations are subject to our Refund & Cancellation Policy, which can be found on the Scheduling & Pricing page. Please review this policy before registering.
Can my child try a program before committing?
Some short programs, such as school break camps or single-session offerings, are a great way to try coding before committing to a longer program. Availability varies by season.
Who supervises the students?
All programs are led and supervised by an experienced educator. Student safety, respectful behavior, and a positive learning environment are always a priority.
What expectations are there for student behavior?
Students are expected to treat others, equipment, and the learning space with respect. Clear expectations are shared at the start of each program to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.
Do students need to bring their own device?
No, but depending on the program, they are welcome to bring their own, if they have it.
Is Minecraft appropriate and educational?
Yes. We use Minecraft Education, which is designed specifically for learning and collaboration. Programs focus on creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork — not free play or competitive gaming.
