The competent teacher differentiates instruction by using a variety of strategies that support critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, and continuous growth and learning. This teacher understands that the classroom is a dynamic environment requiring ongoing modification of instruction to enhance learning for each student.
Description of what I did: I chose to work with an online tool called Prezi and screencast-o-Matic for my future classroom. I thought using the Prezi online tool would allow my students to stay focused and engaged in the lesson being taught because the various templates have slides that zoom in and out of each frame which grabs the student’s attention. What my goal in the future is to model the perk in using technology in the classroom as well motivate them in how to condense their writing due to the templates given. It truly is their own master piece. The great feature about using Prezi is that it is a web based browser tool in which you can access from any device. All images save and pop up right away on their completed Prezi. This tool can be used for any age/grade level and has features in which you can add YouTube videos and audio to the piece.
Standard Connection: Through creating this Prezi and using screencast-o-Matic, I was able to see the perks of using Prezi and screencast-o-Matic to hear my student’s thoughts about why he or she chose the topic to discuss. I feel after viewing something like Prezi it is neat that it allows you to upload your to YouTube to share a new concept to their parents/guardian or friends. I truly believe successful leaning strategies are ones that involve each student personally. This fosters activities for ownership and leadership. With using these technology tools in the classroom it gives students multiple ways to access information and remember it for a lifetime. This tool can be used to present in all subject areas.
Description of what I learned: Creating this web tool really made me reflect on how as a student I would like information to be presented. I would like for my students to not only have fun with creating a virtual project board but have fun in using if not one but both tools! I even thought If each student used these tools for monthly topics to talk about like breast cancer awareness month, march of dimes, history related projects to present as a whole to their class. With this tool I believe students will be challenged because it does require time and more than one individual for group learning can use. It promotes critical thinking, delivering creative content and builds a relationship of what the individual student is capable of.
