Minibikes
Description of Competition: This competition will be a heads up drag race on a 150’ dirt drag strip. Any wheel configuration is accepted to compete in this category. We will be using a double-elimination format to determine the overall champion. The top racers will be rewarded. This competition is to promote best design, fabricating practices, innovation, and creativity. Safety rules need to be strictly followed to compete. Everything racing must pass a thorough safety inspection by your instructor first. Racers must have the “Instructor Inspection List” with them signed at tech inspection. Then by a Welding Expo member on the day of the race.
Inspection Check-Off List:
Must have at least one functioning brake (preferably rear brake) that can stop the bike within 100’ after full throttle.-During tech and inspection on the day of the event if you cannot stop within 100 feet you will not be allowed to compete-prove this to your instructor beforehand!
Must have a chain guard or rider must be protected from a chain failure.
An overall frame check will be done on inspection day to ensure the integrity of the bike is safe.
If you have paddles or any other form of modified tires your fender must cover no less than 65% of the rear tire.
All competitors must present their safety gear during inspection to make sure that all racers have a DOT approved helmet, pants, long sleeved shirt or jacket and gloves in order to race.
The frame must be 60% fabricated-NOT just modified by the student, a minimum of 60%!
Introduction to the rules and overall scope of the contest:
There will be three different classes you will be placed in depending on the performance parts you have added to your bike. The three classes are Stock, Pro-Stock, and Open. Please use the information listed below to place your dragster in the correct category. We will be relying heavily on the honor system and the integrity of those competing to make it as fair and fun for all racers!
We are drag racing on dirt so build accordingly, because this contest will be held on the dirt- traction and ground clearance may be an issue.
Paddles or dirt tires are recommended. If done correctly and your machine has rear fenders, homemade paddles and snowmobile tracks are allowed.
The track will be 150’ long with 100’ of stopping area with loose soil to help stop. If your build has a catastrophic frame failure during the race or when stopping you will be disqualified.
We will have two track officials stationed at the starting line, finish line, and at the end of the stopping area to ensure a fair and safe race for all competitors.
Your machine must leave the starting line under its own power; “kicking off” the line will get you disqualified-or any other device that would give advantage to your dragster.
All drag competitors must utilize a gas motor-no electric motors will be allowed.
*A portfolio of your project will give you an extra ticket for the Welder Raffle at the end of the event*
