Drift Trikes

“Motorized Drift Trike Rules”

Description of Competition: This competition will be a side by side race where multiple racers will navigate the course, the top drivers will move to the next round. The top racers will be rewarded. This competition is to promote best design, fabricating practices, innovation, and creativity. All rules regarding gear ratio, motor, tire size with coverings, and safety guards need to be strictly followed to compete, see the Inspection List.

1.The Predator 212cc Harbor Freight motor is the only motor used to compete-no exceptions.
2.All competitors will need to use the exact same gearing to compete: 10 Tooth driver (motor gear) for #41/40/420 chain, 54 Tooth (axle gear)-chain-jackshafts can be used with a 1 to 1 ratio only.
3.The trike must be fully (100%) enclosed by a bumper-rail system, the rail needs to be EXACTLY 2” off the ground and a minimum of 2” of surface area VERTICALLY. For example: use a 3/16” flat bar 2” wide to wrap around the entire trike. Has to be fully supported. Be attentive to the front rake of your trike to comply with the 2” regulation while building. Be attentive where you place your support bars to avoid a leg/ankle injury-best practice would be to put supports in front of your foot position.
4.All trikes will use 10” C900 pipe to completely cover the rear wheels-the covered wheels must be powered-only C900 pipe will be used(light blue, light green, light purple or pink will be allowed) No fuse-able (black) or irrigation pvc (white) can be used. The pipe must be in new or like new condition with no modifications. The C900 must cover all the rubber surface on the outer diameter of the tire.
5.Absolutely NO INTERNAL or EXTERNAL motor modifications will be allowed in order to compete; the only exception is an exhaust pipe modification-loud pipes save lives!
6.The On/Off switch on the motor has to be accessible to the driver while seated.
7.The trike has to move under the 212cc engine power only, no pedals or feet can move the trike.

8. The chain has to have a guard protecting the rider from chain failure.
9. A seat is required to participate and the seat height cannot exceed 15” from ground level.
10.Your trike must only have 3 wheels. (Dually wheels can be used if using Harbor Freight style rims/tires if they are completely covered with C900 pvc pipe.) 2 of the 3 must be covered.
11.The drift trike has to have a mandatory braking system to participate, it can only be an axle brake or tire brake-***Hand brakes that push into the course will not be allowed.***
12.Only one driver per trike-all drivers have to use the same frame throughout the competition- each contestant will be issued a tag that will identify the driver and their entry.
13.A DOT approved helmet, long pants, and closed toe shoes must be worn to participate.
14.Each drift trike will be inspected by your instructor first to confirm all rules have been followed and then also inspected by the race committee on the day of the event. (These rules are your Check-Off List”)

15.A portfolio of  your Drift Trike will give you one extra ticket for the Welder Raffle at the event.
