A view of brain development as a dynamical system encompasses genetic and environmental factors. The interaction of both eventually determine a cascading effect shaping surfacing behaviours.
With this view in mind, we study typical human development from an early age (as early as 1 month of life).
For better understanding neurodivergent development (e.g., Autism, Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Conditions), we involve in our research neurodivergent people; we also are active across and outside Europe to maximise sample sizes and improve the reliability and sensitivity of our measures.
We are interested in early emerging behaviour (e.g., attention orienting to faces and persons), and their brain correlates. Our research focuses on the development of biomarkers of atypical development that will allow early and reliable diagnosis and evaluation.
We have received advice from the European Medicine Agency (EMA) on our work on biomarkers, a first small step towards a marker with clinical utility.
Good quality data outside of the lab.
Brain, biological and eye-tracking data
We employ portable eye-trackers and EEG machines. Members of our team have visited several locations to collect data (India, Gambia, South Africa), and we provided training for the staff onsite. Our efforts also aim to provide real-time measures that will expand the potential of wireless tools.
We integrate behavioural and brain data with dimensional clinical data to integrate categorical comparisons. We also collaborate to develop integrative models of brain, biological and eye-tracking data with the ultimate aim of providing concise and multifactorial scores.
We firmly believe that knowledge means sharing! Look for us on Twitter to hear about our last publications and find us at conferences and meetings!
We are doing our best to resume testing, and implement measure that keep us and our participants safe, such as:
socially-distanced testing
wearing a face mask all the time
keep the lab door open to improve ventilation
always wash our hands when we enter the lab
wash and disinfect all the equipment after testing
most of us are working from home to allow less people being present at the lab
