Principal's and Deputys' Report

Principal's Report

Our school certainly bore the brunt of our wild weather this week. The torrential and persistent rainfall on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning simply overloaded our drainage systems and, as a result, there was significant rain water damage to several classrooms. With student safety and wellbeing in mind, it was decided, in consultation with the Director, to ask parents to keep their children at home on the Wednesday and Thursday, where possible, to allow the school time to engage assessors and clean-up crews. Thankfully, these personnel did a wonderful job and the school was fully operational by Friday, with some restrictions to some classrooms and playground areas.

The support of the community, staff and clean-up crews has been amazing and the school would not have become operational so quickly without massive amounts of time and effort from a large number of people. I would also like to thank our wonderful Canteen and their employees who kept the Canteen operating for the students who did arrive at school, as well as many staff members.

Before the wild weather hit, students from Cambewarra Public, Illaroo Road Public and North Nowra Public schools attended their Orientation Day on Tuesday and were super excited by all of the exciting prospects that were demonstrated throughout the various faculties in the school. Unfortunately, our second Orientation day on the Wednesday was washed out. This has been rescheduled to Friday 7th December and we look forward to catching up with Bomaderry Public, Berry Public, Shoalhaven Heads Public and Kangaroo Valley Public schools, along with students who come from schools other than our partner primary schools.

Our Annual Presentation Assembly will be held next Thursday in the Hall and the community is warmly invited to attend. Students are informed in advance if they are receiving an award so that they can ask their parents to attend. The school has a wide variety of awards across key learning areas, as well as acknowledging sporting and cultural achievement and this Assembly is a celebration of the success of our school.

During Week 5, two of our students performed outstandingly well after being selected in the South Coast CHS Boys Cricket team. The CHS coach commented that our two boys demonstrated a great attitude and were respectful and sportsmanlike at all times. Hyeon top scored with 56 in one match and Justin bowled very well. It was a wonderful achievement for Hyeon to be selected in this team at just 14 years of age and he is definitely a talented prospect. Congratulations to Hyeon and Justin on this achievement.

Mr. Morris will be returning shortly to the school and I would like to thank the staff, parents and students who have given me wonderful support whilst I have been relieving in this role.

Deputy's report

It has been a very busy time at Bomaderry High School, as we close on another successful and eventful year. Last week, we hosted some Korean staff and students. The interaction and shared experience was a rewarding one for everybody involved. Thank you to all involved in organising, hosting and participating in, this wonderful cultural exchange. The school looks forward to next year when we will visit our Korean friends at Yangpyeong High School, in Korea. Students who are interested in joining the touring group, please see Mrs Parsons for an information package.

The school has also been very busy on the sporting field with Jackson Mannix selected in the South Coast softball team, and a win in the Hasset cup cricket. Congratulations! There have also been lots of end of year excursions for year groups, AIME and individual classes.

The timetabling team has done a wonderful job in creating the timetable for 2019, with organisation well underway for our new school year. The end of this year will see reports being handed out in weeks 9 and 10. Please contact individual year advisors for full details.

The school will conduct our presentation day next Thursday the 6th of December from 11:00 am, sharp. Students are reminded to be on their best behaviour for this important formal event, celebrating student achievement and effort. Students will be informed prior to this date if they are receiving an award and it is expected that all recipients are in full school uniform. All parents, carers and community are most welcome to join us on this day and light refreshments will be provided to prizewinners and their families at the conclusion of the assembly.

Staff and students have been supporting men's health in participating in the MOVEMBER challenges. Please consider donating to the school team at https://mobro.co/13835158

This week, during the extreme weather event, the school suffered significant damage to a number of classrooms and administration areas, which caused some disruption on Wednesday and Thursday. As of Friday the 30th November, the school will be fully functioning again, with students actively involved with their learning.

I take this opportunity to wish everybody the very best at this busy time of the year. Thank you all for your valuable support of public education at our local school.

Mr Flack
