The Giving Tree

It’s that time of year again! Bomaderry High School is running their annual ‘Giving Tree’ project to support people in need during the Christmas season. We are collecting gifts that are in good condition to give to people across the Shoalhaven. We are after donations such as: non-perishable food items, toys, toiletries, books, clothing, sports equipment and school supplies. If you would like to donate a gift, please send it with your child to school. As a token of our appreciation, they will receive a sausage sandwich at our ‘Thank-you BBQ’. We will be collecting donations though to Week 9. Merry Christmas!

4E at the Illawarra Coal Science Fair

On Wednesday the 28th of November, Students from 4E presented their science projects in the Illawarra Coal Science Fair at the University of Wollongong. The Illawarra Coal Science Fair encourages students to undertake a scientific adventure – to design and conduct original research, present their findings in an innovative way and take on the challenge of explaining their research to expert judges. The judges represented the diverse career options in STEM and come from industry, research, government, education and media.

The fair had a total of 950 students participating from Illawarra, South Coast, Southern Highlands, Sydney, Campbelltown, Wollondilly and Western NSW region schools. Despite the severe rain cancelling the numerous activities organised for the day and delaying travel plans, 4E students embraced and enjoyed the opportunity to share their research with others. All the 4E students articulated their research well, demonstrating their understanding of the scientific method and impressing the judges. The project “Are your Taste Buds Gucci?” by Estelle, Emma and Yasmin received a highly commended. All the 4E students are to be congratulated on their hard work in designing, conducting and presenting their science fair projects.

Yangpyeong High School Visit

The staff and students of Yangpyeong high school arrived on Monday December 12th and were welcomed by their very excited BHS buddies. On their first day the students spent time in classes including Music, Art, PE and Agriculture. The students enjoyed the classroom experiences, a highlight being the opportunity to visit the farm and sit in the tractor.

On Wednesday and Thursday, a joint BHS/Yangpyeong excursion gave students the opportunity to experience Stand-up Paddle boarding and the Shoalhaven Zoo, with an additional trip to the Cambewarra Mountain lookout. Stage 3 students at Cambewarra public school were also given an opportunity to meet the students and discuss aspects of their country.

This experience was only made possible by the kindness of BHS families who offered homestays for the week. The students greatly appreciated this opportunity to stay with local host families. Thank you to all buddy students and the parents who hosted students at their homes. This was an excellent cultural exchange and we look forward to visiting Yangpyeong in 2019.
