One of the best resources for flatwater and easy whitewater paddlers in Idaho is the Guide to Idaho Paddling by Katherine Daly and Ron Watters (often referred to as "the purple book"). We recommend buying the book if you want to learn about the many places to paddle in our area. The authors also maintain the Idaho Paddlers website with updated information on Idaho rivers and occasional new paddling trips; be sure to check it out!
The Boise River offers many worthwhile paddling trips beyond the "tuber run" from Barber to Ann Morrison . The Boise Water Trail document created by Tom Chelstrom, and updated by Chel and Adam Bass, is an excellent introduction to this wonderful resource "in our own back yard".
The Payette River also offers numerous nearby paddling opportunities. Although many of the sections of the Payette consist of extremely challenging whitewater, some are suitable for recreational paddling. The BLM Payette River Maps offer detailed information about paddling opportunities that are upstream of the Black Canyon Reservoir/Montour.
