In addition to filing an annual report of its activities, the Board is required by Home Rule Charter Section 3-806(k) to provide an annual accounting of its expenditures. As reported below, the Board spent a total of $1,004,271 between July 1, 2022 and June 30, 2023.
*The Board transferred $45,000 from Class 100 to Class 200 to cover the cost of an Executive Search firm to support the hiring of the permanent General Counsel.
Several major factors contributed to spending below the Board’s FY2023 total appropriation:
The amount spent in Class 100 funds during FY2023 was less than appropriated due to staff turnover. The Board spent substantial time hiring its new General Counsel and also added two staff attorneys in FY2023, bringing us back to ten staff for the first time since 2019. We will continue to fill open positions in FY2024 to target full staffing of the Board.
The Board saw a significant increase in its Class 200 expenditures in FY2023 due to a broader effort to return to the office as well as due to the need to hire an outside firm to conduct the search to fill the position of General Counsel. This search required a transfer of funds from Class 100 to Class 200.
Significant portions of our Class 300 and 400 budgets, which cover materials & supplies were not spent in FY2023. The Board continues to have reserves of supplies not used while the office was closed due to the pandemic. We expect that expenditures will be much closer to our FY2024 Target Budget as the Board needs to restock.
Between July 1, 2022 and June 30, 2023, Board spending included the following:
