Owner of the site that hosted Optus, Medibank data arrested
See the iTWire article by Sam Varghese | Monday, 20 March 2023, at 09:36 am.
A New York resident has been arrested for allegedly running the BreachForums website, which was used to provide information about data leaks to prospective buyers.
According to a report published by Bloomberg, Conor Brian Fitzpatrick was arrested on Wednesday [15 March]. The forum, however, is still accessible.
Data from Australian medical insurer Medibank BreachForums and telco Singtel Optus was published on the same forum last year.
Fitzpatrick, who used the alias Pompompurin, will appear in court on 24 March.
The Optus and Medibank breaches expectedly received wide publicity in Australia, with the first lot of Optus data being published on 17 September 2022.
Data from Medibank was released in a staggered manner. Data that appeared to be related to customers' mental health issues was released on 14 November.
The parties responsible for these attacks have not been found so far.
The website Engadget said one of the FBI agents involved in the arrest had signed an affidavit stating that Fitzpatrick had admitted to being the forum owner.
Contacted for comment, security firm Emsisoft's senior threat researcher Brett Callow said: "While the forum is still online, users may need more confidence in the integrity of the operation."
"They have no way to know how deeply the FBI infiltrated it or whether the current admin is cooperating with law enforcement."
Razer Debuts a New Tempered Glass Mouse Pad

New Tempered Glass Mouse Pad
PC gamers know that a good mouse pad can make a big difference, which is why the popular gaming accessory maker Razer just announced the Atlas, its all-new tempered glass mouse pad. It has an ultra-smooth yet etched surface to deliver consistent and fast swipes, all for only $99.99.
This isn’t your average woven fabric or rubber mouse pad. Instead, it’s a massive 18×16-inch mat made from durable and reinforced tempered glass. Meaning it looks good and feels good.
The Razer Atlas is only 5mm thick (0.2 inches) and has a fully covered anti-slip rubber base that’s perfect for gamers and esports athletes. Between the base and its shatter-resistant glass top, the results are a stable and ultra-quiet mouse pad that Razer claims offers unbeatable durability and performance.
With an extremely smooth surface, gamers won’t experience any resistance or friction while flicking a mouse or swiping to get a quick headshot. Razer said that since most gaming mice use optical sensors, the company added a unique micro-etching treatment on top, which helps optical sensors detect every texture with precision. So it’s smooth yet textured.
If you’re looking for a new mouse pad that’s quiet, durable, and capable, get the Razer Atlas in black or white from our link below.

How to PATIENTLY Fix our Club's Windows 10 Machine
The Club's Computer was suffering from the "Cannot complete the Windows Update — Reverting updates" error for several months, and it was time to fix that.
We needed help to keep up with virus protection and other fixes provided each month by Microsoft.
The only solution was to reset Windows 10. The good news is that we could do this by downloading Microsoft's Windows 10 ISO file, running the "setup.exe" file and saying "Keep Files".
Tim prepared a USB memory stick with the Windows 10 ISO file, downloaded at home.
We double-clicked on the "setup.exe" on the stick.
It asked whether we wanted to save our files. Yup.
Then we watched the endless updating, updating.
And finally, it booted and said "Hi" and we could see the "Real" update in progress.
Then some reboots and some more slow updates.
Then the FINAL reboot and surprise, surprise, ALL OUR DESKTOP ICONS WERE THERE.
Tim said, "Are we game to try asking for Windows Updates?"
Sure, why not?
There were only about 4 or 5 updates in the queue (It must have got some during the loading, resetting and rebuilding.)
AND NOW THEY ALL WORKED, with today's date in the Update list.
We were all amazed.
And that's how Patience Pays Off.
