Born and raised in Northern Michigan, Bobby fell in love with catching at an early age and developed a passion, following his childhood idols Ivan Rodriguez, Mickey Tettleton and Javy Lopez. After high school at Traverse City Central High, having played for Hall of Fame coach, Ian Hearn, Bobby continued his playing career, while majoring in Elementary Education at NAIA Spring Arbor University. While at Spring Arbor, Bobby enjoyed the unique privilege of playing for two thousand-game winning, Hall of Fame coaches, Hank Burbridge and Sam Riggleman.
After graduation, Bobby began his coaching career, serving in various capacities extending over 23 years. From youth to college, and from the gridiron to both diamonds, Bobby's extensive experience has always fallen back to his greatest passion - working with eager athletes behind the dish. In addition to varsity assignments, Bobby first began his college coaching career during the summer of 2009, where he served as Assistant Baseball Coach for the Staunton Braves of the prestigious Valley League. In 2012, he began working as an assistant coach at NCAA Division III Southern Virginia University, where he coached the team's catchers and assisted with hitting and infield.
After encouragement from a pair of sisters and their family, and his wife, Bobby began coaching softball in 2017 - first welcoming attendees at his clinics. Bobby fully immersed himself into the sport and new-found love, attending Jennie Finch's camp, building relationships throughout the country and helping Southern Virginia softball for one fall. After the following spring as an assistant high school coach, Bobby officially entered the college ranks at NCAA Division III Bridgewater College, where he remains the catching coach for a program that competes at the highest level of Division III softball, as members of the powerful Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
Throughout the course of his career, Bobby has mentored and supported hundreds of catchers, working with those that went on to play all levels of college softball and baseball, including "Power 4" athletes.
Bobby's experience also includes a vast range of clinics, camps, and showcases where he has served as lead speaker, and catching instructor throughout the country, working with various organizations and collegiate showcase camps.
A twice-published author, Bobby continues to grow with the position to support all levels of athletes, and focuses heavily on individual development to enhance player strengths, rather than a one size fits all approach.
He also served as an Associate Scout with the Mets for 11 years, and then in the same capacity with the Phillies for six.
Bobby is a sixth grade English teacher in Virginia, and is married to his wife, Kendra. Outside of coaching, Bobby loves his family, friends, and being in the woods hunting, hiking, and exploring. He also loves his students, both past and present - bringing laughter, love, energy, and even support through his publications and ambitions.
