I rode in honor of my grandmother, Mombow, who is a breast cancer survivor, and is still battling cancer. Everyone was riding for someone, it seemed. Our team captain, Chris, is a brain tumor survivor.

According to Roll, "I am sure Lance had probably never met a bike racer like me...a person who could still find some joy and happiness in such weather misery. We had eight hours a day, for eight straight days, of continuous riding in the pouring rain - rain in Biblical proportions! I think Lance would've turned things around even without our talks and rides in the Appalachia[n]s, but it turned out to be a pivotal career event for him (and Roll had made a new cycling friend)." A refocused and encouraged Armstrong went on to a successful fourth-place finish in the Vuelta a Espaa, and within a year and a half he had won his first yellow jersey overall victory in the Tour de France road race. Armstrong has since had his yellow jersey wins nullified due to doping. (Roll's tale of the ride is in Bobke II;[6] Armstrong's is in It's Not About the Bike.[7])

This event is for people of all ages & cycling abilities, beginner to expert with fun mountain, road and non-rider activities. However, please note that Moab does not have a plethora of beginner mountain biking trails- most are still rocky and somewhat technical. Beginner mountain bikers are to ensure that they are comfortable on singletrack, riding at least three hours (with breaks). If you are a beginner mountain biker, you are also more than welcome to join the beginner kids group, who will be riding on the green/blue trails for approximately two hours/day. Most other adult groups will be riding for three+ hours on the more technical trails. We have coaches for every ability with an emphasis on learning, fun, enjoyment, skill building and safety, and want to ensure that all participants get as much out of the camp as possible.

Do not suffer like a pro! Bike racers at the highest level have a pain threshold that will take your breath away. They hover just below cardiac arrest, suffocation, and lactic acid induced asphyxiation for many hours each race day. Most professional sports that the masses enjoy are variations on the theme of hand-eye coordination. Baseball, tennis, golf, cricket, basketball, hockey, football and even race car driving are hugely popular. But for me, the thought of commuting to a stadium and planting my behind on a Frisbee-sized piece of plastic to observe others play a game of glorified keep away is not very savory. On the rare occasions that I have done something of this sort, it has appeared to go something like this: Guy catches ball, his team wins. Guy drops the ball, his team loses. So then, I ask myself, did they really go anywhere with that?

Bike racing is different. As a pro, you launch yourself into an inferno of misery and abject suffering. For the pros, this is a meaningful and worthwhile endeavor. If you do it well and frequently, you will be paid handsomely. For most people, though, the depths to which the pros descend into Purgatory are to be avoided. It is fine to creep up to the edge and look down into the lake of fire, but better to back away from leaping into the place where bad folks go when they die.

Never use your riding to define your self worth. For far too many pros, riding bikes is closely tied to feeling good about themselves. The faster they ride, the more personal worth they feel. Believe me, somebody will

eventually be able to push on the pedals a little bit harder than you can. I admit to not having been

immune to this phenomenon at times in my life. And those times have been the least gratifying of my riding career, even though I may have been traveling at a high rate of speed. As always, the challenge of the open road, including the camaraderie with good friends, and a sense of accomplishment after a hard ride are much more sustainable byproducts of swinging a leg over my machine. Now, here are some things that pros do that help us all enjoy our riding a little bit more.

During my racing career, I was fixated on getting my feet aligned so that they were straight as an arrow. In fact, it was more than a fixation, it was a coping mechanism that allowed me to dwell on something besides being slaughtered daily by my peers. Before my collarbone was vaporized by that Swiss lightpole, I had crashed hundreds of times. In all those tumbles I jumped up as if I was made out of flubber.

You should be able to perform all simple tasks necessary to keep your bike moving in case of a reasonable mishap. Reasonable mishaps include flat tires, broken spokes, a broken chain or loose bolts. You should also be able to notify back-up transportation is case of some catastrophic mechanical failure. Never engage cars in combat; you will lose. You should strive to be an asset to your group and not a liability. White shorts are not permissible if there is even the slightest chance of rain or if you sweat profusely. No sharp objects in your pockets, no glass containers on your bike, and when in Belgium, no window shopping for beer.

About a decade ago, we packed up the van and met up with some of our favorite cyclists to shoot a series of ROAD iD commercials. Ensuing shenanigans included Bob Roll in a bath robe, Levi Leipheimer on a massage table, along with appearances by Alison Tetrick and George Hincapie.

I used to watch his videos a couple of years ago. He was a big Sagan fan at the time (he was in his prime and great to watch). Found them interesting at the start, but he made some absolute howlers - so bad that after 2 or 3 of them I just gave up.

This mountain biking and road cycling camp features four days of riding, coaching and clinics for riders of intermediate-advanced ability and three evenings of seminars and presentations with the Pros, Doctors, Nutritionists and Industry Reps. Riders will be split up according to ability and goals for the camp. Please note: Moab is home to some very technical, rocky riding. IF you are a true beginner to the sport, please know that we will do our best to accommodate but you may be grouped with riders that are above your ability. If you have questions regarding whether or not this camp is for you, please contact Chip Chilson (contact below).

Anyway, kimbap is a popular picnic food in Korea. I always looked forward to my school picnic day because my mom would get up early and make these delicious rolls for me. Our kitchen smelled like toasted sesame oil all morning.

1. Rinse the spinach and parboil it in rapidly boiling water (30 seconds to 1 minute). Drain the water away and run some cold water over the spinach. Gently squeeze the spinach to remove any excess water. Put the spinach into a bowl. Add 1/8 tsp salt and 1/2 Tbsp sesame oil then mix them well.

Place one yellow radish pickle at about 1/3 point of the seaweed then add three burdock strips, one ham strip, one crab stick around it. Then pile up a few eggs strips, carrot sticks, and some spinach. Then roll the seaweed.

Reims is pronounced like clearing your throat -- sort of 'Rance' but more guttural almost a snarl. Not easy to do. We love watching the tour -- we fast forward some of the long sweeps, but slow down for those fabulous fly overs of French towns. Last year they flew over Cadouin where we had stayed for a week with friends and we were all thrilled that we could spot our cottage. I wish they identified more of the chateaux and churches that they feature. Sometimes they label them but other times they have someone blathering and so they go unmarked. France is a beautiful country and the Tour coverage makes me want to go all those places we haven't yet been. We watched the tour come in on the Champs Elysees about 10 years ago - it was great fun -- still have the hat. We also once watched the Dauphine come up Mont Ventoux when we were staying there on its slopes with friends. Still have the gimmee hats the cheese cars were throwing to the crowd before that as well. When they are coming up hill, you can really see them as they are of course a lot slower than on the flat where they flash by so fast, you better not sneeze or you will miss them.

Visited Reims in May --- it rhymes with France - Rance not however, FRANCE like Bobke says more like France like Phil says it. BIG TDF fan here - miss Paul but am enjoying Bobke in the second seat. Seeing the TDF flags in Epernay was awesome - the town was very excited to have the stage. I love watching the Tour when they visit places we've been. On the other hand I made my hubby drive up Mont Ventoux so I could take photos!

I have the NBC Sports Cycling Pass subscription. It has two choices daily, the first is the regular broadcast with Phil, Bobke, Christian, Chris, and Steve Schlanger, with field reports from Jens and Steve Porino. The second is the entire event, no commercials, Matthew Keenan and Robbie McEwan-the former rider-call it in their Aussie accents and it's a little calmer than Phil and Bobke. I usually watch the no-commercial version, sometimes jumping to Phil & Bob if I want more explanation. $55 per year and worth it since I cut the cable a few years back. No more DVR hassle, it's great.

So Reims is pronounced that way because the "ei" vowel sound in French, which sounds similar to a short "a" sound in English, is pronounced as a nasal vowel, which, to some American-trained ears, sounds a little like a short "a" sound followed by a brief, nasal "n" (usually written in pronunciation guides as ).

I went to the last stage of the Tour of California this year and splurged for VIP at the finish line. Just missed the autograph session with the announcers which is just as well because if I had met Phil Liggett I probably would have started blubbering about Paul. The first time the peloton went by I completely understood why it's easier to stay in the pack, the wind they create was really powerful. Banging on the barrier as they go by was something I always wanted to do. I had tried explaining to my wife what a rock star Peter Sagan is but the middle aged women screaming for him at the awards ceremony said it all. The experience made me want to see the TDF in person. 2351a5e196
