Perl, C++, MySQL, large databases, high-volume text-processing algorithms
I was part of the founding team that turned the IMDb from a Usenet hobby to a website to a commercial entity that was ultimately acquired by Amazon.com. It is the web's premier film reference site and the winner of numerous awards.
I designed a way to migrate the IMDb's original database from a collection of flat text files to a proper SQL schema, developed database and user interface features for IMDbPro, and wrote the original algorithms for MOVIEmeter and STARmeter, which efficiently mine the database for ranking movies' and stars' current and historical popularity. I also owned and edited the Quotes and Trivia sections of the database.
For a short time I was the public face of the IMDb at the Webby Awards and on TV. Here's a story about that.
