VDOE

STEM education uses an integrated approach to learning, fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills, while also making learning more relevant and connected to real-world applications. By integrating science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, students develop a deeper understanding of how these disciplines interconnect and how they can be applied to address complex challenges. The Office of STEM is providing a fall professional learning series designed to support the implementation of the 2018 Science Standards of Learning and the 2023 Mathematics Standards of Learning utilizing an integrated instructional approach with the 2024 Computer Science Standards of Learning. Registration is required in advance for all sessions.  

• September 10, 2025, 4:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m.: Making the Most of Instruction Using an Integrated STEM Approach to Learning. In this session, attendees will engage in a process to determine connections between the Computer Science, Mathematics, and Science Standards of Learning and apply these standards to potential lessons and learning activities. • September 24, 2025, 4:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m.: Diving Deeper into the Computer Science, Mathematics, and Science Standards of Learning and Instructional Resources. In this session, attendees will learn more about the standards and VDOE instructional resources and how these resources can inform discipline instruction. Registration form 

• October 8, 2025, 4:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m.: Applying the Data Cycle as an Integral Part of STEM Learning. In this session, participants learn more about the data cycle in the 2023 Mathematics Standards of Learning and apply it to the discipline practices in Computer Science and Science. • October 22, 2025, 4:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m.: Using Modeling to Develop and Assess STEM Discipline Content Mastery. In this session, participants learn more about how modeling can be used as formative and summative assessments of the Computer Science, Mathematics, and Science Standards of Learning.
