The Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF) is an initiative that aims to bring the highly successful student fund model from top business schools at senior universities into a community college-based structure, serving as a high-quality extracurricular that students can utilize to stand out on their transfer applications. We have two arms: a school-affiliated club, where juniors hone their financial analysis skills, and our Blue Panther Fund (paper hedge fund), where those skills are applied in real-time markets.
Our fund is a dynamic, student-driven initiative that bridges the gap between academic knowledge and real-world financial markets through stock pitch competitions, mock interviews, financial journalism, and paper trading. Our paper investment fund operates under two main divisions: our Alpha Fund, where students interested in traditional finance trade using fundamental analysis, and our Delta Fund, where students interested in quantitative finance test their trading algorithms.
We aim to provide an immersive learning experience for all members, equipping them with essential skills for successful careers in finance when they transfer to their respective senior universities and perhaps participate in their respective student hedge funds. We also aim to create a strong pipeline of ambitious business-minded students from BMCC to top business schools and Wall Street careers.
