The elite forces of Elturgard's army, the ranks of the Beargard are composed of only the best Elturgardian soldiers. Once a soldier has proven worthy of the honor, they are sent to the Druids of Eltur to be trained. As part of training, prospective Beargard soldiers spend over a year in the wild, attuning themselves with a bear spirit guide, in so doing the initiate often takes on some physical attributes akin to the bear. The training culminates in a final spirit journey in which the initiate is given a dagger and must hunt, kill, and skin a bear. The skin they take from this hunt then becomes their totem object, and is worn by all fully initiated Beargard soldiers.
