ハイランドダンスは、元々スコットランドの兵士たちが踊っていたといわれており、今もキルト（格子柄の民族衣装）を着て踊られます。現在は競技としても踊られ、スコットランドだけでなく、アメリカ、カナダ、オーストラリア、ニュージランドを中心に世界の多くの地域で踊られていて、毎年ワールド・チャンピオンシップも開催されています。

Highland dance is said to have originally been danced by Scottish soldiers, and it is still performed today in kilts (traditional tartan attire).
It is now also practiced as a competitive sport, and is danced not only in Scotland but in many parts of the world—especially in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. A World Championship is also held every year.
