Blue Microphones (legally Baltic Latvian Universal Electronics, LLC) is an American audio production company owned by Logitech that designs and produces microphones, headphones, recording tools, signal processors, and music accessories for audio professionals, musicians and consumers.

With the popularity of the Snowball, Blue Microphones continued to manufacture USB microphones. Their most best-selling microphone to date, the Blue Yeti launched in 2009. The Blue Yeti has had many special iterations, including the Yeti X, and Yeti Pro.

The only other microphone I was considering buying was the Blue Snowball USB Microphone, which is about half of the Blue Yeti in price. One thing I did that made the choice much easier was spend an hour watching youtube videos of different people demoing the various microphones and providing their thoughts. Thank you, internet.

When I try to record from the Blue Yeti with parecord -v, I get very strange behavior. Essentially, the "latency" of the microphone measured is exactly the same as the time it has been recording. That is, if it has been recording for 5 sec, then the latency is 5000000 usec. Also, if I try to record something in Audacity, I get no result except for a message box that says "Latency Correction has caused the recorded audio to be hidden before zero. Audacity has brought it back to start at zero." Also, pavucontrol doesn't show an input volume bar for the Blue Yeti, as in the above screenshots, whereas it normally will for microphones that are getting input. The Yeti is not muted, either, so it should be picking up ambient fan noise and such.

Still, Logitech is keeping the "Yeti" branding from the mics' legacy instead. But with microphones with the defunct Blue logo still selling and sitting on people's desks, the name will, to a degree, live on.
