No racing experience necessary, just strong intermediate level skiing.
Dryland Practices
Begin Wednesday, Nov. 6th at DHS South Gym
Dry land workouts (ski exercises, etc.) are mandatory and will be before school in the old gym on Mondays and Fridays from 7-8 a.m., and on Wednesdays from 7:30-8:30 a.m. This continues through ski race season; since races are on Mondays, trainings are only Wednesdays and Fridays starting in January. There is no dry land training during Thanksgiving or winter breaks. Please contact the coach if you are participating in a concurring high school sport like Cross-Country or Tennis.
Racers should wear comfortable athletic clothing as they will be doing various exercises to build core strength and flexibility.
Contributions
Helmets -- The California Nevada Interscholastic Ski and Snowboard Federation requires a FIS certification helmet (sticker on the back) that covers the ear and is a one-piece unit. Coach Bob places a group order of helmets, after he has fitted them during dry land.
Poles and pole guards -- These are often group-ordered. Racers get sized at dry land for poles. Emails will circulate about this when Coach Bob is ready to place orders.
Ski and boot bags -- Prices on Amazon are generally good. Be sure ski bags are padded as they will be piled up together under the bus.
Optional team apparel. Racers may opt in to purchase team apparel which will be organized by volunteers.
Bus Transportation
On weekend training and race days, the team will travel by bus from the Davis High parking lot near Brunelle/DHS tennis courts to the training or race site. On most days, racers should be at the bus by 5:45 a.m. (some days the racers need to be there at 4:45 a.m. Team emails will let racers know when to arrive). We load 15 minutes prior to departure. The bus returns to the DHS parking lot some time in the evening, generally around 6 p.m. Racers are encouraged to text the person picking them up as they cross the Causeway. If a racer is not going to be on the bus for one or both directions, he or she must let transportation coordinator know in advance. Sign-ups will be posted before each trip up/down mountain -- watch for emails or use the link on the website home page. The bus does not wait, so be on time!
Ski Swap: Sunday, November 10th
This is the team's only fundraiser! All team members and a parent are expected to assist. A notice with a sign-up link will be circulated by email and will also be accessible through the "Ski Swap" tab on the website.
Weekend involves taking in donated and consigned items and setting up the facility on Saturday, November 9th, helping vendors and shoppers, and cleaning up.
Excellent resource for most gear you will need and least expensive route!
Mammoth (?) Slalom Camp: December 7-8 (tentative)
League event -- not required. Travel Friday afternoon (private transportation -- no bus); train with coaches (gates, etc.) Saturday and Sunday.
Parents need to accompany athletes. We have a block of rooms reserved at the Westin – contact Bob to get discount, do not call directly.
Details will be emailed when available.
