The BMC has undertaken numerous campaigns, participated in various actions, and advocated for a wide array of stakeholders. Our primary focus will be on campaigns aimed at disrupting the revenue stream for the junta. This will involve targeting multinational oil and gas corporations, calling upon them to cease payments to the military-controlled Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE), and urging international governments to implement more specific sanctions against MOGE. We conduct strategic campaigns in collaboration with people, local organizations, and international entities. Our campaign activities encompass a combination of on-ground demonstrations and online movements. We utilize various digital platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, and Telegram, as essential tools for our campaigns.
Our campaign activities involve a diverse range of tactics, such as on-ground protests, social media photo protests, orchestrating Twitter mass trending events, creating memes and engaging in trolling, carrying out naming and shaming activities on social media, gathering petitions, sending open letters, and exerting media pressure. These activities are vital for actively involving the public and applying pressure on both companies and governments throughout the course of our campaign.
For the research project, BMC is going to establish a comprehensive data collection system to monitor military air strike activities in Myanmar. This involves data from local and international sources, including eyewitness accounts, media reports, and human rights organizations. Classifying the collected data into specific categories, including date, location, type of aircraft used, targets, and the impact on civilians. Document findings in a comprehensive and accessible manner. Develop reports, visual aids, and summaries to communicate the impact on civilians and the connection to the jet fuel supply chain effectively. Publicizing the data builds public awareness and puts pressure on states and companies to reassess their involvement in the jet fuel supply chain. It encourages them to take responsible actions and divest from activities contributing to human rights violations. Monitoring military air strike activities and building a comprehensive dataset is crucial for the Jet Fuel Accountability Campaign, providing the necessary foundation for advocacy, public awareness, and international cooperation to address the impact on civilians.
Additionally, we are in the process of compiling reports concerning natural resources and the junta’s sources of revenue. These reports are designed to shine a spotlight on critical sectors and situations, engaging pro-democracy groups and the international community alike. Furthermore, we plan to leverage these reports as integral components of our diplomatic and advocacy campaigns. To gather the necessary data, we will be sourcing information from primary resources, media reports, news outlets, and the wealth of knowledge within our alliance groups. The creation of these reports will be a collaborative effort, with our BMC media team and select alliance groups assuming vital roles in this endeavour.
Our campaigns are built upon meticulously gathered data, factual information, and research findings contributed by individual experts and reputable organizations. Before launching any campaign, we engage in comprehensive secondary research, which involves reviewing and consolidating data obtained from primary sources. The majority of these invaluable resources are derived from independent entities, including the media, Justice for Myanmar, Myanmar Witness, Inclusive Development International (IDI), and various watch organizations, such as Dawei Watch.
Meetings with various stakeholders, including local and international alliances, the diasporic community, local strike and protest groups, and civil society organizations (CSOs), are crucial components of our campaign strategy. These meetings serve several purposes and are conducted in specific ways to enhance the effectiveness of our campaign processes: Meeting with local and international alliances, as well as diasporic communities, allows us to forge partnerships and build a strong network of like-minded organizations and individuals. These alliances can provide support, resources, and a unified voice for our cause. These meetings serve as platforms for sharing information, updates, and insights related to the campaign. It's an opportunity to keep all stakeholders informed about the latest developments, research findings, and campaign strategies. Meetings with local strike and protest groups enable us to coordinate our efforts effectively. We can align our strategies, synchronize actions, and avoid duplication of efforts. Together, we can plan and execute impactful campaigns and actions. Engaging with the diasporic community ensures that their voices are heard and their perspectives are incorporated into the campaign. It empowers them to actively participate in and contribute to advocacy efforts from abroad. By meeting with local strike and protest groups, we provide support and resources to grassroots movements. This amplifies their impact and helps them achieve their objectives, which may align with our campaign's goals. During meetings, we can mobilize supporters and plan specific actions, such as protests, letter-writing campaigns, or social media blitzes. These actions are designed to exert pressure on governments and corporations to bring about the desired change. Regular meetings allow us to assess the evolving situation and adapt our strategies accordingly. If there are new developments or emerging opportunities, we can quickly adjust our approach to seize them.
We employ a wide range of campaign materials to effectively convey our message and engage our target audience through social media campaigns. These materials are thoughtfully designed and strategically utilized to maximize impact. Well-crafted written content in the form of blog posts, articles, and captions serves as the backbone of our social media campaigns. This content is informative, persuasive, and designed to resonate with our audience, providing them with the necessary information and arguments to support our cause. In-depth reports based on meticulous research findings are used to substantiate our claims and provide credible evidence. These reports are often shared as downloadable documents or summarized in infographics to make complex information more accessible. Eye-catching and visually appealing graphics, including infographics, charts, and data visualizations, are employed to simplify complex data and enhance the overall visual appeal of our campaigns. Short videos and animations are effective tools for conveying compelling narratives and emotional appeals. They can explain complex issues in a more engaging and digestible format, making them ideal for social media sharing. Cartoons and illustrations can inject humor and satire into our campaigns, helping to make our message more relatable and shareable. They are often used to highlight absurdities or draw attention to specific issues. Official press releases are essential for disseminating important campaign updates and garnering media attention. These releases are distributed to journalists and media outlets to ensure our message reaches a broader audience. Short and impactful social media posts, including tweets, Facebook updates, and Instagram stories, are used to maintain an ongoing presence and engage with our followers. They often feature a combination of text, images, and hashtags to maximize visibility. Polls, quizzes, and interactive stories are used to encourage user engagement and gather feedback. These elements create a sense of participation and involvement in our online community. Live broadcasts and webinars allow for real-time engagement with our audience, enabling us to address questions, share updates, and build a sense of community.
We organize both online and on-ground demonstrations with the assistance of local and international alliances to target companies and governments that support the junta's financial pillars. Our primary goal is to urge these entities to impose targeted economic sanctions and take more practical actions in support of Myanmar's democracy. To organize these demonstrations effectively, we follow a well-coordinated approach. We begin by developing a clear and detailed plan, outlining our objectives, identifying target entities, and specifying the actions we want them to take. We also work closely with our local and international alliances, seeking their input and support in this crucial endeavour. We utilize various communication channels to promote the demonstrations, including social media platforms where we create compelling content, press releases, and event listings to raise awareness and mobilize supporters. Collaborating with influencers and activists further helps amplify our message. In the online realm, we organize coordinated social media campaigns with specific hashtags and messaging to reach a global audience. Additionally, we create online petitions and encourage supporters to sign and share them widely, thereby increasing our impact and advocacy efforts.
When it comes to social media campaigns, we take a strategic approach. We meticulously plan each campaign, defining our key messages and objectives. We select the platforms that are most effective for reaching our target audience, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and more, depending on where our supporters are most active. Our content creation process is a crucial aspect. We develop visually compelling materials such as images, videos, and infographics to complement our messaging. Our content is crafted to not only grab attention but also convey the urgency and significance of our campaign. We invest time in creating specific campaign hashtags and messaging. These hashtags help supporters find and engage with our content, amplifying our reach and impact. Engaging with our followers is another priority; we actively respond to comments, address questions, and encourage discussions, fostering a sense of community. Collaboration with influencers who share our cause is an essential part of our strategy. These influencers can help us extend our message to their followers, broadening our reach and connecting with new supporters.
Our approach to online petitions is methodical. We create petitions that clearly outline our campaign's demands and objectives. These petitions are hosted on platforms like Change.org or Action Network. We promote them extensively through our website, social media channels, and email newsletters to encourage supporters to sign and share them. We consistently track the number of signatures and monitor the petition's progress. This data helps us gauge the level of support and provides compelling evidence of our cause's strength to decision-makers. The delivery of these petitions is a critical step. We ensure they reach their intended recipients, whether they are government officials, corporate executives, or other relevant stakeholders. Often, we publicize these deliveries to generate additional pressure and attention. Through these online demonstration methods, we harness the power of the internet to reach a global audience, mobilize support, and advocate for our cause with maximum impact and visibility.
