Google Meet Tips

Joining calls

The easiest way to join the call is to register for the summit using a Google Account (e.g. gmail).

If you register with a non-Google Account, you will need to request to join the meeting.

Who can join video meetings?

  • People in your organization who can access the shared Google Calendar event details.

  • People outside your organization who are added to the Calendar event and have a Google Account.

  • People outside your organization who are invited during the meeting by a participant.

Who needs to request to join video meetings?

  • People outside your organization who aren't added to the Calendar event.

  • People who don’t have a Google Account (joining from the web only).

  • People outside of your organization who are using Google Workspace for Education accounts.

Someone from your organization who’s in the video meeting can grant access.

Note: A chime sounds when the first 5 people join the meeting. There’s no chime when additional people join, but you’ll see a notification in the meeting. The new participants are automatically muted.

Breakout rooms

  • During tea time we will split into breakout rooms.

  • Rooms will have around 5 people.

  • You will be randomly assigned to a room during each session.

  • You will see a prompt to join a breakout room. Click Join to move to the room.

  • At the end of tea time we will close all breakout rooms.

    • You will get a notification and have 30 seconds to finish your conversation and return to the main room.
