The goal of this event is to raise money for Parkinson's research in the UK and Australia.

Why are we doing this?  

Both of our parents suffering with Parkinson’s taught us a lot about dealing with adversity in our own lives, as we helped them deal with it in theirs.  Our Mother had a couple of techniques to deal with Parkinson’s, one was notes around the house reminding her not to let Parkinson’s beat her and another was painting.  She took up painting after being diagnosed as it helped control the shaking.  A selection of her work has been included on this web site.

Parkinson’s is the fastest growing neurological condition in the world.  You can treat some of the symptoms of Parkinson’s, but a cure is the dream.  And that’s only possible with more research, which in turn requires funding.  To help raise the necessary funds the Binks brothers are doing our own challenge to help raise funds for this cause.

We are supporting a charity in the UK, “Parkinson’s UK” and one in Australia, “Fight Parkinson’s” (also known as “Parkinson’s Victoria”) through the JustGiving platform. We’ll be riding from Land’s End to John O’Groats – a distance of 1,650k (1,025 miles).  It will take us 16 days at an average of 100k per day.  Each day will also entail climbing a vertical distance of 1,000m and probably a fair few blisters too.  The route has a few deviations in it, including one through Clive where all our biking skills were developed.   

Helps us raise funds for people with Parkinson’s by donating for our ride.  Any amount will help people with Parkinson’s live a better life, and will go some way towards finding a cure for this life-affecting neurological condition.
