I was born in Republic, WA and lived in Colville and Sequim, WA before moving to Brewster in 1991. I am proud of the fact that I had the opportunity to grow up in the great community that is Brewster, WA. I graduated from Brewster High School in 2002. I went on to earn my bachelor's degree at Whitworth College in 2006. My degree was in history with an emphasis in secondary education. I also received minors in Social Studies and Special Education. I earned my Master's Degree in Athletic Administration from Concordia University-Irvine in 2017, and just recently (2020) completed my Administration Certification through Gonzaga University.
I am very passionate about continuing to learn new things and seeking out knowledge. I have implemented a growth mindset to improve my knowledge of a wide variety of skills and content areas. This has provided me with the opportunity to work in a variety of different roles as an educator and a coach. I come from a family of educators and teaching seems to be in my blood. I am a third-generation teacher, and both of my parents spent many years working for the Brewster School District. My wife is a teacher, and my brother and his wife our educators as well. I have four aunts and uncles that have worked in the field of education, as well as four of my cousins.
My teaching experience began at the Republic School District where I taught Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology, Washington State History, 7th Grade Language Arts, 7th Grade Math, Special Education Language Arts & Mathematics, and Middle School Physical Education over a period of five years. I also served as the AVID Coordinator for the district and was just hired as the athletic director before moving back home to Brewster. While in Republic, I also served in as the varsity baseball and girls' basketball coach. I also had the opportunity to work as an assistant in football, cross country and volleyball during my tenure.
This will be my tenth year working for the Brewster School District. The previous nine years I have worked solely as a middle school math teacher, but this year I am looking forward to making the transition to the high school where I will be teaching Integrated Science 1 (Physics/Chemistry), World History and CWP/Civics. I will also be entering my eighth season as the varsity baseball coach, after serving one year as an assistant. I have also coached middle school football and middle school girls' basketball. I have also spent time as an assistant on both the high school football and girls' basketball staffs.
My wife, Katie and I, have been married for seven years and she is currently teaching Kindergarten at Brewster Elementary. We have two children, Duke (age 3), who is an absolute ball of fire, and Braunwyn (age 1), who is still trying to figure out her way in life and whom we affectionately call Wynnie.
My hobbies include spending time with my family, anything I can do outdoors, reading, watching sports, working out. I especially love prep sports, any of the local pro sports teams and Duke athletics.
