The Brewster Baseball team was one of ten recipients in the state of Washington of the Mariners Care Grant. Each the year the Seattle Mariners baseball organization gives out ten Mariners Care Grants to five high school baseball and five high school softball teams. The grant was for the amount of $5000 dollars. The team members and their families were also invited to attend the Mariners’ baseball game versus the Anaheim Angels. As part of the invitation the players were able to go on the field for the home team’s batting practice where they were able to take part in some casual conversation with the Mariner’s star second basemen, Dee Gordon and owner, John Stanton. The team was also able to take a picture with All-Star Jay Bruce. Three Brewster Baseball players, Joe Taylor, Jeff Sonneman and Corey Jarrell, coaches, Todd Phillips and Travis Todd, and athletic director, Greg Austin also took the field to receive the check from President Kevin Mather and owner John Stanton.
