I am passionate about educating people about plants, evolution, and ecology!
Grow where you are planted
We developed an activity for the US Botanical Garden and piloted the activity at the "Plants Move, Plants Matter" booth at the National Science and Engineering fair in Washington DC. You can read more about that here.
Seeds, Seeds, Everywhere!
I designed three activities to showcase the different ways plants have evolved to protect themselves using chemicals and thorns as well as the ways they have evolved to move seeds around using parachute-like and velcro-like mechanisms.
These activities have been used in the
- Science Biomimicry camp at Liberty Science Center
- Rutgers Gardens Day Camp
- Science Fairs at local New Brunswick schools
- Rutgers Day plant outreach booth
and won first prize for students in the Botany Booth in Box competition.
Eat your weeds!
We prepared food items using common, safely foraged weedy plants and provided the recipes for people's use.
Read more about using spontaneous plants here.
What plant is that?
We collected examples of weeds and provided field guides for common weeds found in the eastern United States.
You can find links to our field guides for broadleaf weeds and grasses.
