BMBS is a privately-funded research operation, and we need your help!

All of our current equipment has been either donated, borrowed from other projects, or purchased out-of-pocket by the lead researcher and dedicated volunteers. We do not have the ability to register as a nonprofit organization at this time, and we are not directly funded by any research grants or existing nonprofit agencies. In order to keep supporting avian research and conservation education and (hopefully!) expand the current scope of our work, we need financial assistance!
All money raised from this GoFundMe campaign will go toward the purchase of equipment. Our current equipment needs include:
Net poles
Mist nets (for safely capturing wild birds)
Audio equipment for bird song lures
Banding equipment (pliers, wing rules)
Reference materials to aid in determining the age and sex of the birds we study
This equipment is necessary to the basic operations of a bird banding station. Specifically, we will need this equipment to replace old/damaged equipment (as needed), expand the current study of breeding bird populations, and start a new study of Northern Saw-Whet Owl migration (coming in fall 2025). However, if you would like to support BMBS and would prefer to directly purchase a low- to medium-cost item of nontechnical equipment, we also have an Amazon Wish List.
Links to our fundraiser and wishlist are at the top of this page. Any and all contributions are appreciated. Thank you so much for your support!
