Hi, I’m Tristan Fowler, the breeder, owner, and handler behind Black Coal Bullies. My journey with the American Bully breed began in 2016 when I brought home my first puppy, Sadie, who quickly became the foundation of our program. From the moment I met her, I was captivated by the breed’s unique blend of strength, loyalty, and affection. I was drawn to their incredible temperament, muscular appearance, and the overall lifestyle that the breed embodies. Sadie stole my heart, and I immediately knew this was the breed for me. That moment ignited a passion in me, and from then on, I was dedicated to learning as much as possible and doing my part to improve the American Bully breed in terms of health, temperament, and structure.
Since then, my mission has been to breed dogs that are not only stunning in appearance but also healthy, well-tempered, and structurally sound. I have focused on quality over quantity, striving to produce dogs that meet the highest standards of the breed while also ensuring that they are the best possible companions. At Black Coal Bullies, we are a small, family-focused breeding program based in southeastern Nebraska. Our goal is to produce health-tested classic and pocket class American Bullies that excel in both conformation and temperament. We pride ourselves on taking the time to carefully plan each breeding to ensure that every puppy we produce has the best possible start in life.
Our approach to breeding is grounded in a deep commitment to the well-being of the dogs and their future families. We place a heavy emphasis on early socialization, health, and development. That’s why we utilize the Puppy Culture method, which is a proven, comprehensive program that ensures our puppies are well-rounded, confident, and prepared for their new homes. From birth, our puppies are raised indoors in a clean, safe, and sterile environment. They are exposed to a variety of stimuli, including different sounds, textures, and experiences, helping them become adaptable and resilient to new situations. This early exposure lays the foundation for a calm, well-adjusted adult dog.
Starting at 3-4 weeks, we begin potty training and introduce basic manners to our puppies, ensuring they develop good habits early on. By the time they leave for their new homes at 10 weeks, they are already familiar with essential skills, such as crate training, basic obedience, and appropriate social behavior. We believe this early investment in their upbringing pays off in the long run, creating dogs that are not only easy to live with but also have the drive and confidence to excel in any setting, whether it’s a family home, sport, or show ring.
At Black Coal Bullies, our commitment goes beyond producing beautiful dogs. We are dedicated to raising puppies that have strong health foundations, excellent temperaments, and the correct drive to become the ideal companion for families. Every dog we produce is a reflection of our values, and we are passionate about ensuring they bring joy, love, and loyalty to the lives of their new families. We look forward to continuing to improve and contribute to the breed, always with the goal of raising dogs that are the perfect balance of physical strength, mental stability, and loving companionship.

The American Bully breed developed as a natural extension of the American Pit Bull Terrier. The APBT has maintained a characteristic appearance and temperament for over 100 years. As with any longstanding breed, several types evolved from the parent breed, with one in particular taking on a specific build and structure that is so unique it was wise to recognize it as a different breed altogether. That being the American Bully breed.
The American Bully breed was subtly influenced by the infusion of several other breeds, which include the American Pit Bull Terrier, American Bulldog, English Bulldog, and Olde English Bulldogge. While these breeds were utilized in the creation of the American Bully, it is a breed of its own and should not specifically resemble any one in particular.
The American Bully breed was recognized by the United Kennel Club on July 15, 2013.
The American Bully is found in three distinct sizes, the Pocket, Standard/Classic, and XL. The Classic has a lighter body frame and less overall body mass than the Standard while still exhibiting bully traits. Their appearance reflects a strong American Pit Bull Terrier foundation, blended with stock from other bull breeds.
