Temperatures are dropping quickly and that means many risk factors are rising for our unhoused and unsheltered neighbors. Hypothermia can occur at temperatures below 50°F and is worsened by wet weather. This also increases susceptibility to colds, viruses, pneumonia, frostbite, and chronic illnesses.
While BKC is mutual aid focused around providing hot, homemade meals cooked with love, the community has come to know us as a consistent resource and often ask for additional aid. We are preparing in advance to help meet some of these requests and have supplies available in abundance weekly.
