Dr. Biswajit Deb is an Associate Professor of Mathematics at Birangana Sati Sadhani Rajyik Vishwavidyalaya (BSSRV), Golaghat, Assam. He holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, with his doctoral research focused on Motion Planning in Graphs. He completed his M.Sc. in Mathematics from Gauhati University in 2000(01) and his B.Sc. from Arya Vidyapeeth College, Gauhati University in 1998. With more than 24 years of teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, he has made significant contributions to mathematics education, research, and academic administration.
His research interests span Graph Theory, Domination in Graphs, Spectral Graph Theory, Graph Characterization, Motion Planning in Graphs, Linear Algebra, and emerging applications of graph theory in areas such as Graph Neural Networks. He has published research articles in reputed peer-reviewed journals and has actively engaged in research supervision. He has successfully guided Ph.D. scholars and continues to mentor research students in various areas of discrete mathematics and graph theory.
Prior to joining BSSRV, Dr. Deb served at Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT), Sikkim Manipal University, for more than 23 years, where he held the position of Associate Professor of Mathematics. During his tenure, he undertook several academic and administrative responsibilities, including serving as Warden, President and Secretary of the Staff Club, Time Table Officer, and Examination Coordinator for various national-level examinations and academic programmes. He was also actively involved in organizing academic events, mathematics camps, Olympiad-related activities, and institutional programmes.
Dr. Deb has contributed extensively to curriculum development in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, particularly in the areas of undergraduate mathematics, research-oriented programmes, programming, and data science. His academic interests also include the integration of computational tools and programming with mathematics education, with particular emphasis on Python, data science, and emerging technologies.
In addition to his teaching and research responsibilities, he has been actively involved in academic administration, examination management, student development, training and placement initiatives, and institutional activities. At BSSRV, he has contributed to the establishment and development of the Training and Placement Cell and has been involved in strengthening industry–academia interaction and student career opportunities.
His academic career reflects a combination of sustained teaching, research, student mentoring, institutional administration, and curriculum development, with a continuing interest in advancing mathematics education and exploring the interface between mathematics, computation, and emerging technologies.
