Dr. Biswajit Pathak currently works as a Ramanujan Fellow at the Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He did his Postdoctoral Research at the Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford, UK. His research work in the Soft Matter Photonics Laboratory in collaboration with Dynamic Optics and Photonics Laboratory involved development of a light modulator technology for controlling the spatio-temporal coherence of light source (EPSRC funded). Prior to this, he worked on a couple of projects as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the University of Oxford that involved development of an MMF based endo-microscopy system (Dynamic Optics and Photonics Laboratory) and development of a programmable aperture-based imaging system for high resolution in-vivo imaging of the human retina in an AOSLO (Perception Laboratory). He was also a College Advisor of Kellogg College, University of Oxford during his Postdoctoral studies. He also worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow (for a short term) at the Physical Sciences Division of Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Mohali, India. Biswajit completed his PhD in the year 2017 in both theoretical and experimental optics from the Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, India where he developed a grating array based zonal wavefront sensor using computer generated holography technique.

He has published a number of research papers in international peer reviewed journals as part of his PhD/PostDoc work. He has been associated with a number of inventions in the field of wavefront sensors that resulted in six patents (4 granted and 2 applied). He has also been conferred with more than 16 awards in reputed national and International conferences for his research contributions. Recently he has also been awarded with the prestigious Ramanujan Fellowship by SERB-DST, Govt. of India. Moreover, he is the founder president of the SPIE-IIT Guwahati Student Chapter. During his tenure as president of the apex body he successfully conducted several conferences and outreach programmes in different colleges/university of North-East India. He has also been selected as an Event Officer for Optica (one of the leading Optics & Photonics society) in the Holography and Diffractive Optics technical group. He serves as a reviewer for many internationally reputed publishers, such as, Nature, Optica (formerly OSA), Institute of Physics, Wiley-VCH, Elsevier, Springer, etc. His research interest is mainly in the fields of adaptive optics, diffractive optics, endo-microscopy, retinal imaging, liquid crystal devices, computer generated holography, wavefront sensors, laser speckle metrology.
