Q: How much time did it take you to finish all your college apps, financial aid, and scholarships application?
A: A lot of time. I started doing them in August and finished my college apps right before the deadline of January 1st, 2018 and submitted my financial aid application late January. Keep in mind I applied to 16 of them and a majority of them required multiple essays. In addition, I was studying for the SAT as well-something I should have done over the summer. I do not miss those times, at all.
Q: How much sleep do you sleep a day during the first semester of senior year?
A: Quite a lot compared to my friends, around 6.5-7 hours a day. Sleep was my priority because I literally cannot complete an assignment if I was not physically ready. Sometimes my grades suffered a bit because of this but overall I was much more productive.
Q: How were other aspects of your life?
A: Lots of my friends were consumed by school work and college apps as well so I didn't feel too lonely. In retrospect, I went out like once a week with my family and around once in every 2 weeks with my friends. So yeah, my social life wasn't the most exciting thing. Expect your life to be imbalanced, heavily leaned towards your academic work.
Q: How did you deal with stress?
A: Crying myself to sleep or having existential crises nightly. JK. I tried my best to work out at least 4 times a week, around 2 hours each session. The endorphins were good stress-relievers. Plus, exercising helped me fall asleep faster at night (or it could be that I was overworked, ehh). In my free time, I tried to call my friends who were going through similar issues. Happiness is doubled while sorrow is halved when you talk to your friends. Lastly, I had a set schedule that I followed religiously, otherwise, I would've had episodic panic attacks.
Q: If I do everything right in this guide, am I guaranteed to get accepted?
A: No, but it can help your chance of getting admitted. Considering the author of this website got rejected by 1/3 of the schools he applied to, I can only give you a "maybe". Or if you look at things positively, he got into 2/3 of them. No guide will magically boost your GPA a whole point or 300 points on SAT, you have to do them yourself. But even that wouldn't guarantee your admission. Let's hope?
Q: How do I deal with rejection letters?
A: If a school doesn't accept you, it probably thinks you would not have the best education there for who-knows-what reasons. It's their loss anyway. I was pretty sad when I got the rejected by the Ivy League and Stanford but then I realized UCLA offers me literally everything I need to be successful anyway.
