Dear students and parents of Bishop Amat High School and whoever else checking this mini-website,

No matter how hard people try to downplay it, senior year of high school is stressful, especially if you are trying to get into your dream college(s). And rightfully so, on top of graduation, prom, AP/IB exams, college application and related processes could negatively affect your physical, mental and social well-being. Below is the fairly accurate representation of a school-consumed senior:

Who am I?

My name is Khoa Dang, a 2018 Bishop Amat alumnus and a current undergraduate student at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). As a senior myself at one point, I was overwhelmed with senior year's workload and college application process. I want to dedicate this website to provide our Lancers necessary information regarding college applying process, hoping that it would alleviate some of your stress and confusion and (hopefully) make senior year less dreadful of an experience.

Here were my some of my high school academic achievements:

Top 5% highest grade point average (GPA) of 2018 class
Perfect unweighted GPAs throughout years of high school
Scored in the 99+th on the New SAT and 93rd percentile on the ACT (there is a long story behind this discrepancy between these two tests...)
IB Diploma Programme Candidate (as hard as high school could get and I'm not even being biased. Maybe a little. Still, ask any IB kids at your school and prepare for their unlimited rants about IAs, Extended Essay, CAS, sleep deprivation ...etc. Good academic program though, 7/7 would suffer again)
Recipient of multiple first and second honors in regular, honors, AP and IB classes
Accepted to UC Berkeley, Tulane University, UCLA (GO BRUINS!!) and other smaller private colleges with substantial merit scholarships.
Annoying my teachers at times for being overly inquisitive
Somewhat relevant but not really: I was an international student from Vietnam with limited English coming to the U.S.

While this is impressive to some, by no means I was the best high school student (rejected by 7 colleges in one week and 5 of them in one day). However, I credit lots of my personal successes on the work ethic and hope the list would inspire you to achieve your goals, as my favorite teacher always said:

"The success in American education is based largely, if not solely, on one's grit."-Mr. Christopher Ulate

(He said it way cooler than this but you get the idea.)
