All talks are preceded by a three course dinner. Here is a selection of our past events (scroll down for some photographs)
2025-26 was Dr Aaron Borboras presidential year in office starting with his talk 'Murder on The Akbar?'. Other talks were from Mr Mark Baker on ‘Policing in Liverpool’, Dr Paul Johnson OBE 'what lies beneath...a case of a body entombed in concrete', Robert Boutflower, 'Secrets of the Wine Trade’, Derek Arnold '185 years of Cunard' and the High Sherriff of Merseyside, Mr Billy Hui BEM DL. The Presidents Dinner was held at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club where local dignitaries including the Mayor of Birkenhead joined us for a meal and talk by Mr Nigel Taberner called ‘Listening like a life depends on it’.
2024-25 was Dr Peter Todds presidential year in office and the Society enjoyed a range of speakers.
Magician Peter Turner entertained us at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club. Dr David Unwin, The Merseyside GP dramatically changing T2 diabetes care, Dr Colm O'Mahony, Heartwarming tales from life as an Irish doctor in an NHS GUM service, without the pictures!, Alex Howard, Learning Healthcare Systems: Artificial Intelligence and Medicine, Dr Donal Manning, Medicine and literature: from neonatology to James Joyce.
It was concluded by the AGM as above.
We had a great programme 2023-24 organised by Dr Jean Quinn with speakers including: Dr A Annakin- Smith, local historian and author " Statesmanship, Tragedy and Love", Professor R. Smith FRCVS, cattle vet, Leahurst Vetinary School, Marie Passey, Blue Badge Guide, presenter of BBCs 'Look North' Roger Johnson and Douglas Robertson, shipwreck survivor and author. It was concluded by the AGM where Dr Peter Todd took the mantle of office and gave the Presidential address 'Walking the Paradise Peninsular'.
We had a full programme in 2022 and 2023 with speakers including-: Andy Gill, Merseyside reporter for BBC's Northwest Tonight, Dr Calum Semple OBE, Prof Louise Kenny CBE MD PhD MRCOG and on Wednesday 26th April- AGM. Dr Jean Quinn took over as President, giving the Presidential address "A Life in Medicine, Politics and Education".

Guest Speaker- Dr Iain Buchan, Chair in Public Health and Clinical Informatics, and Associate Pro Vice Chancellor for Innovation. Dr Richard Azurdia has presented this jug on behalf of himself and his sisters, Ruth, Debbie and Kate to honour their parents love of golf and his father's commitment to the BMS. The late Dr Michael Azurdia was the Society's golf secretary for over 30years. It is to be known as the Azurdia Jug and will be awarded annually to the BMS / WDGS member with the best net score of the day at the joint BMS/ WDGS golf tournament.
Michael was a member of both BMS and WDGS.
