OBJECTIVE:
To develop practical effective approaches to manage BFD by understanding the epidemiology and population genetics of Cylindrocarpon-like asexual morphs fungi.
CONCRETE OBJECTIVES:
(i) To demonstrate the role of asymptomatic secondary hosts (weed and rotation crops) as potential sources of inoculum.
(ii) To determine BFD fungal species composition (richness and diversity) on soil and plant samples.
(iii) To analyse the population structure of Dactylonectria macrodidyma and D. torresensis from soil and plant populations from grapevine, weed and rotational crops.
(iv) To evaluate potential associations between genotypes and virulence based on pathogenicity tests.
