OBJECTIVE:
To develop an integrated rhizobiome improvement strategy to enhance grapevine resilience to soil-borne fungal diseases and drought stress, while promoting sustainable viticulture and soil health.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
Assess the impact of drought stress and soil-borne fungal pathogens on the grapevine holobiont, focusing on black-foot disease and white root rot disease.
Evaluate grapevine rootstock tolerance to root pathogens and drought, identifying materials with improved resilience under contrasting water availability conditions.
Characterize the interactions among grapevine roots, pathogens, beneficial microorganisms, root exudates, and the rhizosphere microbiome under combined biotic and abiotic stress.
Identify beneficial fungi and root exudate metabolites that enhance grapevine performance and tolerance to drought stress and soil-borne diseases.
Validate sustainable, non-chemical rhizobiome-based strategies combining tolerant rootstocks, beneficial microorganisms, and selected exudate metabolites for improved management of grapevine root diseases.
