Bread is one common application of Biotechnology.
It uses yeast as a raising agent.

The dough is what is used to make bread.
To make the dough, combine flour, water, sugar, and yeast in a mixing bowl.
Through a series of chemical reactions called Fermentation, yeast ferments carbs to produce CO2, ethyl alcohol, and flavoring substances.
The dough is set aside for some time at an ideal temperature.
Amylases convert some of the starch in the dough to sugar during this time. Under anaerobic circumstances, yeast cells break down the sugar to make ethanol and carbon dioxide.
The carbon dioxide created causes the dough to rise, which makes the bread spongy and loaded with air cavities. The ethanol evaporates during baking, and the bread is created.
Now, let's do the virtual lab experiment on anaerobic respiration in yeast !
